Yesterday the programme was revealed for this years festival

https://iffr.com/en/programme/2019/per-day

I've been visiting the festival since 1999, usually do around 25 movies
And this is what I'm planning on getting tickets for this year

25 jan

Nuestro tiempo 11:45 - 15:04 in Pathé 5
Murder Me, Monster 16:45 - 19:00 in Schouwburg Grote Zaal

26 jan

Diamantino 12:15 - 14:13 in Pathé 5
Love Me Not 17:30 - 19:18 in Pathé 6
Derrière les volets 19:45 - 21:01 in Cinerama 3

27 jan

Killing 14:30 - 16:16 in KINO 2
Entre dos aguas 18:00 - 20:42 in LantarenVenster 1

28 jan

Enquanto estamos aqui 10:15 - 12:09 in Cinerama 6
Manta Ray 13:15 - 15:31 in Cinerama 1
Maggie 17:30 - 19:24 in KINO 1

29 jan

Lisbon revisited 10:30 - 12:11 in Cinerama 3
Todos somos marineros 14:00 - 16:10 in Pathé 1
The Juniper Tree 16:45 - 18:29 in Cinerama 3
Tutto l'oro che c'è 19:30 - 21:36 in KINO 2

30 jan

Dead Horse Nebula 10:30 - 12:09 in Cinerama 1
The Garden Apartment 12:30 - 14:40 in Cinerama 3
Mabata bata 16:00 - 17:40 in Pathé 5
Der Unschuldige 19:15 - 21:35 in LantarenVenster 3

31 jan

Koko-di Koko-da 10:15 - 12:06 in Pathé 7
Long Day's Journey Into Night 13:15 - 16:01 in Pathé 3
Gefängnisbilder 18:30 - 21:02 in Pathé 2

2 feb

Vulnerable Histories (A Road Movie) 10:30 - 12:39 in KINO 3
You Have the Night 14:00 - 15:48 in Pathé 3
The Gold-Laden Sheep & the Sacred Mountain 18:15 - 19:57 in Pathé 5

Mostly Asian and Latin-American cinema. Two interesting experimental filmmakers from Spain to discover. Highest expectations for Diamantino, Killing, Dead Horse Nebula and Manta Ray. That last one will get a regular release in the Netherlands too, just like Nuestro Tiempo, but I wanted to see them at a great venue with a good crowd, hopefully directors present and such.

Any other IFFR visitors on the forum? (Lonewolf, but there must be more right...)

They have a lot of stuff going on!
it is always too much :) Paradjanov is also in a (small) spotlight indeed
The biggest retrospective item is "unfinished films"
I'm doing a few older movies like Juniper Tree and Gefangnisbilder, but mostly opted for the new stuff this year

"unfinished films"
yeah he had a lot of those

There's supposedly a book of six or seven of his screenplays for unfilmed films but I can't seem to find the book. anywhere. :/

sounds like just the kind of film festival I'd enjoy but I'm approximately 5k miles away and I've heard hitchhiking the Atlantic isn't recommended this time of year. Hope you enjoy it, beavis!

Jealous.

The lineup always looks cool. May eye this up for next year.

My number one happens to be the movie that also won the Tiger Award (english title: The Cloud in her Room)!! This has never happened before. The competition focusses on beginning filmmakers, so it is extra special that for me it went over something like the new Pedro Costa movie (both movies are superb of course, but I "felt" one a bit more than the other). It was also one of many films by young female directors that came with sensitive, intimate and sometimes explicit personal stories, and I'm glad we can hear these voices more and more now.

The young Galician film-scene continues to amaze with O Que Arde and Longa Noite (both with Mauro Herce behind the camera). In fact it was the very old generation (from the Tyger Burns programme) that were the only really big dissapointments for me, with a very weak new Ruy Guerra movie and a torturous new (and probably final) movie from Nobuhiko Ôbayashi.
