yeah wouldn't be surprised if they keep this format. Meh, I've never understood why people whine about it being long - sports fans can deal with 3-4 or more hour long games routinely, but movie fans gripe about a single awards show a year that's too long? I dunno, I figure it comes with the territory. And I've liked some of the hosts - David Letterman, I'm looking at you - that most people hated, though I have to admit that Franco/Hathaway didnt work. Whatever, I'm just glad that, give the declining ratings, it still gets telecast at all.

Do they? I always felt that was a self induced concern.

And then with the very next award, Spike gets a part of his due. Jesus these Oscars, they take your heart, they trample it, then they revive it. Fuckin a.

HAHAHA oh god I can't believe it. I hope it wins best picture at this point. The ironic thing is that the idiots are surely patting themselves on the back thinking green book is this woke movie and they're so woke for throwing a few awards and a bunch of noms its way

I watched baseball fairly regularly when the Cubs were good - but not quite great - in the 90s, but not since then. I've always been pretty patient though - Grateful Dead and Sprinsteen shows, Mahler, Wagner, Tarkovsky and Rivette. I don't get bored that easily.

The speech wasn't as bad as the one they gave at Golden Globes, pretty sure I threw up a little then.

first Man was robbed of Sound Editing and Mixing. One of the most immersive films I've watched in a very long time due in large part to both the sound editing and mixing.

Listening to Rami Malek, he sounds like the nicest person ever but something about him makes me really uncomfortable, like "never want to be alone in a room with him" uncomfortable.

Roma had amazing sound also - I'd have been happy with either of them winning. Where First Man was really robbed was in its score which wasn't even nominated.

Was rooting for Britell or Blanchard but I can live with Göransson

edit - re: m-d-f

Oh wow, that is actually noticeable horrible editing. What were voters thinking?

I'm fine with Actress - didn't see Glenn's performance, liked all four of the others quite a bit, any of them winning was fine. One of the only categories this year where I have no problems.

Happy to see Cuarón win this - the only reasonable winner in this category IMO, and the fact that Spike got an award earlier makes it easy to not feel bad. First winner in this category for a film not in English? Too lazy to look but that's my assumption.

Green Book was probably the film I liked most of out of this year's nominees, but it really doesn't deserve that award.

Green Book doesn't surprise me at all. It's like Trump getting the presidency all over again. A lot of critics and avid movie watchers were like, "It's gotta be between Roma and The Favorite". And I was like, 'Nope. it's gonna be the tepid, vaguely racist Green Book. Sorry folks. The Favorite has too many lesbians and Roma is in another language." But hey, at least Bohemian Rhapsody didn't win. That would've been worse I guess...

I liked Green Book well enough, but my first thought upon seeing it was "this sure wasn't Best Picture material".

Looks like the Academy doesn't agree with me. Of course they have almost never agreed with me, so that's no surprise I suppose.

I would have much preferred to see Roma or The Favourite or even A Star is Born get the award - but I actually enjoyed Green Book (don't tell anyone!), so I can't complain too much.

Roma didn't win because it's a netflix film, I've been sayin' it for months. It was down to GB and Queen.

also, that clip from Bohemian Rhapsody linked above honestly has made me feel ill. that was horrible.

I didn't hate it or anything - it just feels very, very mediocre. "Most mediocre" BP winner since...Argo I guess.
