Movie posters

#1

Post by matthewscott8 » May 1st, 2018, 11:10 am

I rewatched Cries and Whispers in the cinema recently and got very excited. It was a film I saw 15 years ago and was enthralled by, but being older it really hit me quite hard, and I put it into my top 10 movies on revision.

Anyway I loved the original Swedish movie poster so I bought it. It just turned up and I got excited again, so I thought I'd post and see if any of you guys have any cherished movie posters.

Nice, I really like it, especially how high vertically it is to allow the space to hollow above the women and beneath the title, with the trees and lake.

I have a small 'Vertigo' one, two from 'Stranger Things' (picture), and then (currently not hanging) one from 'A Clockwork Orange' (this one), 'Pulp Fiction', 'The Hateful Eight' (this one), and something else, but maybe I'm confusing it with Munch's "Scream" and Magritte's "Son of Man". They're all very cheap.

Otherwise my father has old, quality 'Lolita' and '2001: A Space Odyssey' posters, but he guards them with a three-headed dog against me.

I only have two original posters; first, the 4-sheet version of this:

Signed by Tarkovsky and Josephson!

and

both folded, not rolled, unfortunately, and the Nostalghia poster is in rough shape and too large to display where I am.

I would most like to get these:

and alternate versions of the last:

but poster collecting isn't something I can do right now, both for monetary and space reasons.
Here's to the fools who dream.

Yeah it's pretty cool. The Tarkovsky sig is very faded and could be fake, but the Josephson one is strong. Not that it adds anything really, monetary-value-wise or otherwise (I've never cared much about signatures - I own lots of first editions but unless I were to get a book signed to me by the author, I wouldn't ever care about making an effort to get a signed 1st), but it's kind of cool. Or would be if I had it displayed and if anybody other than me ever saw it.

Hehehe, this one looks quite interesting. I wonder if he can resist the urge to sprinkle in homophobia. Can't work out what he's holding in his hand, looks like a rum and coke to me.

My father didn’t have the skill of a professional cameraman. The result? Avant-garde cinema.
