I might add more to this post later...

1. Rewatch at least 26 movies.
2. Silver on 500<400 and keep it or get it back after the update. Currently 22 to go.
3. Platinum on iCM Forum's 1001 Favorite Movies. I'll probably do this after the update. 36 to go on the current edition.
4. Clean out my iCM-watchlist.
5. Ongoing stuff, which I do every year: keep platinum on TSPDT, watch every newly available title from Rosenbaum and Unesco, watch every WC-movie, watch every FotW-movie

- Watch some of the longer movies that I've wanted to see for a while. Stuff like Satantango, Melancholia, Berlin Alexanderplatz, Out 1.
- See a lot more from the 1970's, which is shaping up to be my favorite decade.
- Watch more of Guy Maddin's filmography.
- Watch more of Sion Sono's filmography.
- Just generally continue to broaden my horizons and expand my taste in art.

No real list related goals for now. That may change as the year goes on.

This is obviously the first time I've done this on this forum; used to do goals on IMDb but not regularly. I'm going to keep them modest and thoughtful and try to come up with 10 in the next day or so.

1. is easy, it's been a goal in my head for 30, yes 30 years: finally finish off Fritz Lang's filmography. Lang was the first director I really got into when I got serious about film and obviously a lot of his stuff was hard to see in VHS days, really all the way up to probably sometime last decade there were some that were elusive. But for about the last 5 years I've only had Harakiri to see and I've just delayed because I only had a terrible copy. Now with the new KINO complete silent film box set I don't need to delay. I'd also like to re-watch a lot of his other work, particularly the Mabuse films, Metropolis (have yet to see the longer cut) and the Indian duo, but those aren't necessarily high priorities.

2. Japanese genre quest. This has been percolating in my head for the past year or so; I haven't really seen a huge amount of Japanese cinema (less than 300 titles) compared to a lot of folks here, and a big chunk of what I've seen has been "arthouse" stuff from the likes of Ozu, Naruse, Mizoguchi, Shimizu, Kurosawa. So I thought I'd make up my own little series, starting in 1954 because we have two very important samurai films and Gojira in that year. I intend to watch lots of swordfighting (including Zatoichi and Lone Wolf and Cub), giant monsters, and noir/crime/yakuza. Probably some sf, horror and pinku as well but I don't think they'll be primary areas of investigation. Probably will still for the most part to what I already have copies of (that's at least 150 features) and focus on the period from '54 to about 1976.

3. 75/100 quest. This is a quest to hit 75 features and 100 films total in every year (eventually) going back to the 1920s. A reasonable goal would be to hit these numbers for every year 1946-59 and 1979-2000 this year; I've already hit it on over half of those years and am only below 80 films seen currently for one of them (1983). I also will probably go for 100 films from 2016, and I've considered concentrating on that year.

4. Country conquests: I'd like to hit 300 films from Canada, 150 from Iran, and 100 from Korea/South Korea this year; I'm at about 75-80% of those totals at the moment. I should significantly increase my Japanese total if I concentrate on #2 also; and I'd like to see more from the greater Middle East & North Africa, particularly Israel and Egypt.

1. Watch and vote in every WC match.
2. A bit ambitious given I don't even have bronze yet, but I'd like to get platinum on 500<400 by the time it rolls around again. So I can keep track as I go throughout the coming year, I am starting out with 230/500 seen and rank #49.
3. I currently have platinum on ICM Forum's 1001 Favorites, but I'd like to regain it once it is updated later this year. I suppose the same goes for TSPDT although I have gotten increasingly irritated with the quality of the additions each year.

1. Have my favourite films list reach 1000 (currently at 970)
2. Finish 2017 and 2018's ICM Forum's 1001 Favourite Movies list
3. Finish 2018's TSPDT list
4. Remain in the Top 10 for Doubling the Canon and reach the Top 10 for <400 (currently 13th)

I'm supposed to have laser surgery on my eyes day after tomorrow so may or may not be able to tolerate more watching than I currently can.

I've gone off official awards; pretty much the only thing I have in mind is to keep plugging away at the Children and War list as led. (Had seen a quarter when I finished making it; given what's available I could get a "bronze" if I put my mind to it.)

I've been thinking about this for a while, and I don't have really good answers to this yet. And since I'm still so new to film (~1.5 years, if I'm being generous), I have a lot of making up to do.

Reasonable Goals
- Improve my ICM rank to 1500 (currently 1972)
- Make progress (i.e., at least 1 official check) on all official lists (that I haven't already platinumed)
- Get my rank for all lists under 5000 (53 lists to go)
- Get 64 awards (currently at 52)
- Get a bronze on at least one of those ~1000 film top lists
- Get at least 5 watches in all 36 official challenges this year

Stretch Goals (may not be attainable, but worth a shot)
- Improve my ICM rank to 1200 (currently 1972)
- Get 3 new checks on all official lists (that I haven't already platinumed)
- Get my rank for all lists under 2500 (142 lists to go)
- Get 75 awards (currently at 52)
- Get a bronze on at least two of those ~1000 film top lists
- Get at least 10 watches in all 36 official challenges this year

Unreasonable Goals (a boy can dream, right?)
- Improve my ICM rank to 1000 (currently 1972)
- Get 5 new checks on all official lists (that I haven't already platinumed)
- Get my rank for all lists under 1000 (172 lists to go)
- Get 90 awards (currently at 52)
- Get a bronze on at least three of those ~1000 film top lists
- Get at least 20 watches in all 36 official challenges this year

I also want to be more active in participating in the various activities on the forum.

For now:
1. To watch 250 movies, which is a lot since I gotta do a lot of studying plus there is a World Cup in the middle of the year.

I watch around 250 new films per year, so my somewhat realistic goal is:

- 52 films directed by women (one per week)
- 52 German films (one per week)
- Conquer 25 new countries
- Participate in a challenge every month
- Continue to watch 1930s films, at least finish the planned 1933 and 1934 films (12)

I managed to complete the 2017 goal of being ranked 300 or better on every official list, so I'll keep with this theme. I've crunched the numbers for the following milestones:

Top 250: 74 checks
Top 225: 154 checks
Top 200: 261 checks

Unfortunately the latter two goals are out of reach for me - I'm literally down to the last day to meet the 2017 goal, which started with 103 checks - so it looks like this will be an easier year for me, shooting for Top 250 on every official list. I may try to complete it in the first 6-8 months and then plug away at other relevant checks to make a Top 200 run for 2019 a possibility, but it's far too early to decide on this. Let's see where we are at midyear...

1) Watch a lot of Science Fiction related media including TV shows and shorts and hopefully finish the ICM Forums complete Sci-Fi list (410 unchecked).
2) Participate in all of the World Cup showdowns.
3) Hopefully work through a decent chunk (25%) of the backlog on my computer. On a related note work through the rest of the films I have on disc pertaining to Fassbinder, Greenaway, Kaurismaki, Ray, Ozu and Angelopoulos, Bunuel.
4) Watch more from 1950's and 1960's. I'm aiming for 50 features from each at least.
5) Watch more films from Vietnam (because it's my world cup country), the entire African Continent and Spanish, Portuguese and Italian speaking countries. 100 at least.

At the moment I don't think I'll complete any of these objectives, but here's to hoping!

No, Nothing like that. I just want to see more pinoy films after I saw some Lino Brocka, Lav Diaz works last year.

- Lots of rewatches, especially films I saw once years ago and barely remember. I've been doing more of this lately and it's been satisfying.

- Make a point of watching films from my favourite directors that I haven't seen yet.

- Keep up with interesting new releases.

- Maybe a bit of focus on the TSDPT top 1000.

- Semi-related: watch some of the TV series I've been wanting to for ages, especially Deadwood and The Leftovers.

- Most importantly - keep it fun, don't pressure myself! I've fallen into this trap a bit in the past and it's not what film watching should be about. I'll be going with the flow and my instincts more than anything.

It isn't going official. At least not yet. Gershwin said he didn't get an adopted list message.

Anyhow, my goals from this year:

Finish the watchlist that I wanted to finish a couple years ago! (Still 363 to go! Lots of shorts though)

After that:
Put a major dent into Golden Globe best picture nominees (522/695; 173 unseen) I definitely won't finish this list this year!
Get as close to completing AA Foreign Nominees (198/313)

*Break into the top 100 on ICM!*

Looks like a pretty good list. While I've only seen 4 films on it myself at the moment I have about half of the list already on my to-see pile and I've heard of many of the rest. I don't know if there are better pinoy lists out there but this one strikes me as possibly adoption-worthy. At any rate I'm adding it to my watchlist, so thanks.

Pretty much do what I do every year:

- watch at least 1 new favorite every two weeks
- rewatch at least 1 old favorite every two weeks.

Write up a full review and add them to my personal toplist. Currently I'm at 330 films, this pace should give me a nice and round top 500 in two years time. The ultimate goal is to full-review all my personal favorites (~ 1050 right now), but I'm going one step at a time.

I've made a 1000 film watchlist divided into ten categories that resulted in the films being included with 100 films included for each criteria.

Goal: watch 10 films off each of the ten lists, which would give me a total of 100 films watched.

I would like another goal of watching at least 200 films overall from the lists combined... but I have no idea what life is going to be like this year. I'll be too busy over the summer to watch any films, but then I'll probably be unemployed for a few months while waiting for exam results afterwards (however, I would like to travel instead of watching movies all day, but I won't have that much money to travel, so what will happen is a mystery)

Soft targets:

See 5 films from "Ro", a list of Romanian films I found on IMDb. It has my favourites in and lots of obscurities so it really looks like a "find" of a list. http://www.imdb.com/list/ls009905909/. Currently have 41 to go.

Platinum medal for Thrillers on ICM, at 45/50, was going to finish it off this year but a cinema showing of Sholay was cancelled and so I lost heart.

Finally get around to Satantango.

Medium targets:

Have seen 10 excellent films for all years of the 1980s. Doing this for the 1970s was a task I completed during December of 2017, 1973 was a toughie! Need to find 2 for 1980, 4 for 1984 and 1 for 1989.

See the 8 movies on this 2009 list I haven't seen: http://www.imdb.com/list/ls025224077/

See 10 new "excellent" Indian movies.

Hard targets:

Have a top 1000 list by the end of the year, currently at 937. Whilst I usually add 100 movies a year, I have been cutting about 50 each year as well, so this is tough as a target.

Get to 100/151 movies in the S&S 2009 list, eg. any 2009 movie on any critics ballot, currently seen 59/151. http://www.imdb.com/list/ls033188050/

Practically impossible targets:

Finish the Ro list

Finish watching every movie in the S&S 2009 list, eg. any 2009 movie on any critics ballot, currently seen 59/151. http://www.imdb.com/list/ls033188050/

Heh. I happen to know a fair amount about this, if you want to bounce ideas off someone here or off the boards somehow... :whistling:

I need to finish what I started... So some of my goals should be easy to reach :

1 - Finish the AFI lists (3 more films to watch)

2 - Reach gold on the They shoot zombies, don't they ? list (192 films to watch)

3 - reach #1 in the french lists : 2 movies to check

4 - get bronze on the <400 list : 105 movies to check.

5 - get a gold medal on They shoot pictures, don't they ? 8 more checks...

My goals will be largely similar to last year,

1. See 1 film per day
2. See at least 10 films that are over 3 hours
3. See 20 films that are over 3 hours
4. Rewatch my top 10 favorite films
5. Rewatch 25 films
6. After the update, cut my unseen films on TSPDT in half (Currently 59/1001 to see)
7. Complete the TSPDT list (on one provision, Empire must fall off)

Additional, but less specific and more open:

8. Continue to work on watching 1000 films from France
9. Continue to work on watching 1000 films from Japan
10. Continue to work on watching 500 films from Germany
11. Continue to work on watching 333 films from Italy
12. Continue to work on watching 250 films from USSR (and Russia, ex-USSR states)
13. Continue to work on watching 250 films from Czechoslovakia
14. Expand on Brazil
15. Expand on China
16. Expand on Iran
17. Expand on Poland
18. Expand on Taiwan
19. Expand on Portugal
20. Watch more straggler films from my favorite directors

BECOME TOP 5 ON ICM.
this is a huge one, but I reckon it's in the cards... I'm gonna have to step up my short film game though, I barely watched any last year...

Main goals:

TSPDT: 986/1001
Finally finishing this one, hopefully nothing that's impossible for me to see will be added in the update next month.

Make a dent in my Unchecked Movies list ordered by #official toplists.
13 Lists: 1
12 Lists: 1
11 Lists: 5
10 Lists: 11
9 Lists: 13
8 Lists: 44

Secondary targets:

Sight & Sound: 767/807
No specific number to reach, just get closer to completion. It's currently impossible for me to complete at this point due to the installation piece Line Describing A Cone
Brief Encounters: 138/250
It'd be good to get silver on this, which is 50 shorts to watch.
Directors
Nothing set for this yet because it's especially dependent on my watching mood but I hope to focus on some filmographies and do better than 2017 where I had 1x 6 films by the same director, 2x 5 films, 5x 4 films, 9x 3 films. I'm mainly putting this here to remind myself to do this check at the end of this year.

Finish TSPDT. Currently 946/1000. The exception probably will the Empire, since it doesn't seem to be available for home viewing.

Keep up with being in the top 250 of every official list.

Participate in the World Cup for the first time and as much as possible.

My main goals for 2018:
  • Watch the Dekalog-series (copy-paste from last year  )
  • Watch the complete Zatoichi serie
  • Go to the cinema at least 4 times a month (2 times to the main "blockbuster" one and two times to the arthouse one)
  • Rewatch 75 movies that are in my all-time favorite list (or move into it after rewatching)
  • Reach gold on iCM Forum's 1001 Favourite Movies (at 879 now) (and maintain it if I reach it before the update)
Extra credit:
  • Reach 175 of 250 in the Top 250 Directors challenge (at 151 now)
  • Reach and maintain platinum on iCM Forum's Top 250 Favourite Movies of the Current Decade So Far (at 229 now)
  • Complete the Film From Each iCM List Challenge (at 135/181 now)
  • Watch the 5 unseen movies on 20 or more official lists
Which areShow
The Best Years of Our Lives
The Gold Rush
Viridiana
The Birth of a Nation
Greed

General goals:
Don't let my backlog increase too much, in other words watch stuff first before buying new stuff.
Read more books

2500 feature-length films - 324 to go
2000 short-length films - 289 to go
4250 checks - 373 to go
2500 official checks - 401 to go

Finish outstanding goals from 2015 (16 goals) & 2016 (23 goals) & 2017 (6 goals)
Finish all four old watchlists (2013-2016) - 52 to go
Finish 2017 watchlist - 31 to go
Finish 2018 watchlist - 50 to go

Very basic goals for this year (and a lot of cleanup). I'm setting minor goals for some of the lists, but the only additional one I will track is number of films on official lists.
I saw this year at one point I had 25 unchecked films on 25 or more official lists. I'd like to get it down to 20 unchecked films (or less) on 20 or more official lists. I currently have 48 unchecked films on 20 or more official lists (with a few more likely to be added after the new lists get adopted), so this will be a good, challenging goal, because most of those films I've been putting off for one reason or another over the years.

  • Get 100 awards. I'm currently at 88 - this will be easy if I have any sort of focus, since there are a bunch of lists where I'm less than 10 movies away from earning bronze.
  • Finish up the BFI Animation list (I've been stuck at 70/99 for ages, in spite of having access to the rest of the films.)
  • Get silver on Criterion (currently 806/1110 - so 27 to go. This would have already happened, if it weren't for that confounded Olympics set. ;) )
  • Make progress on Eclipse list (currently 31/178)
  • Finish AFI 100 Movies list (82/100)
  • Get bronze on whatever Westerns list is official
  • Watch more TV shows (I've got a ton lined up on Blu-ray and Netflix - it's just a matter of sitting down and watching them.)

I feel like I should be careful with specific goals this year. In mid-2016 I just lost interest in movies of any kind and it lasted for about a year and I failed to reach all my goals for 2016 and my even more modest goals for 2017.

My interest in movies has come back but it feels more fragile than before. So with that in mind here's what I'd like to do in 2018:

1. Finally finish off the AFI 100 Years 100 Cheers list. I'm 2 movies away from completing it, I have them, just need to actually watch them. This has been a goal since 2016. DONE

2. Finally watch the remaining available films from the BFI 360 Classics list. 3 are available but have no subs, so the "total" (for now) will be 362 and I'm 7 movies away from that. Has been a goal since 2016. DONE

3. Make headway in my Conquer the World challenge. I'm close to having conquered Africa (need a movie from South Sudan and Somalia to have one from each country), but I'd like to reach a grand total of 150 conquered. I'm currently at 118, so it doesn't seem like too much of a stretch. 32 to go for now. FAIL

4. Reach gold on the TSPDT list. I'm right now 30 movies away from gold, but it's been slow going over the past year or so (I think I saw 7) so I may not reach that goal after the update. DONE

5. Reach silver on the 100 Korean Films list. I'm currently 10 away from that goal. Should be doable. DONE

6. Complete 1001 BYD list again. I'm 9 away from that. Not really a priority, but I'll see if i can't get around to it. FAIL

I may update this post if I think of something.
