Personal Film Goals for 2018

1. Rewatch at least 26 movies.
2. Silver on 500<400 and keep it or get it back after the update. Currently 22 to go.
3. Platinum on iCM Forum's 1001 Favorite Movies. I'll probably do this after the update. 36 to go on the current edition.
4. Clean out my iCM-watchlist.
5. Ongoing stuff, which I do every year: keep platinum on TSPDT, watch every newly available title from Rosenbaum and Unesco, watch every WC-movie, watch every FotW-movie
After two months:

1. Done 3 so far. Bit behind schedule.
2. DONE. 402/500 now.
3. Not working on this yet. First watching some more 500<400-stuff that I'm interested in.
4. Same as 3.
5. Regained plat on TSPDT. Rest is just regular stuff. Watching the latest Unesco-title now.

2) Participate in all of the World Cup showdowns.
3) Hopefully work through a decent chunk (25%) of the backlog on my computer. On a related note work through the rest of the films I have on disc pertaining to Fassbinder, Greenaway, Kaurismaki, Ray, Ozu and Angelopoulos, Bunuel.
4) Watch more from 1950's and 1960's. I'm aiming for 50 features from each at least.
5) Watch more films from Vietnam (because it's my world cup country), the entire African Continent and Spanish, Portuguese and Italian speaking countries. 100 at least.

At the moment I don't think I'll complete any of these objectives, but here's to hoping! :cheers:
:!Update!:
1) ICM Forums Complete Sci-Fi List: 379 unchecked
2) Failing miserably at watching the World Cup films! I'll just try to watch all of them by the end of the year.
3) I did take a decent amount off my computer backlog but the problem is it just keeps piling up again. I've only watched 1 movie from the directors mentioned and that was a Bunuel.
4) 1950: 16/50 1960: 56/50
5) Didn't watch any from Africa or Vietnam yet but I did watch about 20 Italian/Spanish/Portuguese variants.

Not a great month in general, but this is mainly due to Oscar Season skewing the Rotten Tomatoes list, something I should be able to remedy easily enough over the course of the year. Here's a breakdown of my progress, showing the number of checks needed at the beginning of the year, last month and today, with completed lists in bold, backslides in red and gains in green:
The push for Top 250 on every official listShow
1910s: 3-->4-->5
1950s: 1-->2-->2
1960s: 1-->1-->1
1980s: 1-->1-->1
1990s: 0-->0-->1
A.V. Club Best Films of the 00's: 1-->1-->1
Amanda Award - Best Film: 1-->1-->0
Animation: 0-->0-->0
BBC's 100 Greatest Films of the 21st Century: 1-->1-->1
Belgian Film Awards: 1-->1-->0
Best of Rotten Tomatoes: 0-->1-->5
Cahiers du cinéma 100: 2-->2-->2
Cannes Film Festival - Palme d'Or: 1-->0-->0
ekolay.net's Best Turkish Films: 2-->2-->0
Film-noir: 0-->0-->1
Golden Horse's 100 Greatest Chinese-Language Films: 0-->0-->0
Goya Award: 1-->1-->1
Guldbagge Award: 1-->1-->0
iCheckMoves - Most Favorite: 0-->0-->0
Livejournal Russian Top 100: 5-->5-->5
MovieSense 101: 1-->1-->1
Paste's The 100 Best Anime Movies of All Time: 3-->3-->3
Reddit Top 250: 1-->2-->2
Russian Guild of Film Critics - Best Russian Films: 1-->0-->0
Sight and Sound 2012 - Combined List: 15-->14-->15
The 100 Best Films of World Cinema: 2-->2-->2
The 100 Most Significant German Films: 1-->0-->0
They Shoot Pictures, Don't They?: 21-->14-->16
TimeOut's 100 Best French Films: 2-->2-->2
Top 100 Bollywood Films: 3-->3-->3
Top 100 Spiritually Significant Films: 1-->1-->1
War: 1-->1-->1
And the breakdown so far:

Goal: Top 250 on every official list
Films left at start of year: 74
Target pace to meet goal: 6.17 checks/month
Checks left last month: 67
Checks left currently: 72
Checks left at this point in 2017/2016/2015: 84/80/58
Current pace: 1.0 checks/month
Top 300 goals completed this month: Amanda Award - Best Film, Belgian Film Awards, ekolay.net's Best Turkish Films, Guldbagge Award, Russian Guild of Film Critics - Best Russian Films
Lists that have (re)appeared this month: 1990s, Russian Guild of Film Critics - Best Russian Films
Worst ranking this month: Best of Rotten Tomatoes (#473)
Best goal-related rank: Guldbagge Award (#190)

The Best of Rotten Tomatoes list has ballooned this month, almost single-handedly erasing all other progress I had this month. The number of lists taken care of this month tells the real story, and in all likelihood next month things will look at least a bit better.

1 - Finish the AFI lists (3 more films to watch)

2 - Reach gold on the They shoot zombies, don't they ? list (192 films to watch)

3 - reach #1 in the french lists : 2 movies to check

4 - get bronze on the <400 list : 105 movies to check.

5 - get a gold medal on They shoot pictures, don't they ? 8 more checks...
1. Still 2 films to watch. Shame on me for getting distracted...

2. 188 more checks, so there's progress here, even if not enough.

3. I got the plat on the timeout list, so I only need to watch 1 film (except if the Cesar gets attributed to a film I haven't seen this week-end)

4. 98 films before bronze, I've kind of let down that goal for the moment. I'll get back to it soon.

5. Gold was reached with the new list, but I consider I still have 6 more films to watch, as it was my initial goal. I'll get there soon.
1. Still one last film to watch, and I'm done with this !! :ph43r:

2. 187 more films to watch. I didn't really work on that one, this will change as soon as goal #1 is reached.

3. Still one more Rohmer to watch... I'm letting this one last longer than it should...

4. 96 films before bronze, and I'm changing it to watching 1 film per week from that list. I'm at january 15th... 10 movies behind !! :blink:

5. 5 more films to watch... Planning this for next month's TSPDT challenge...

2. See at least 10 films that are over 3 hours
3. See 20 films that are over 3 hours
4. Rewatch my top 10 favorite films
5. Rewatch 25 films
6. After the update, cut my unseen films on TSPDT in half (Currently 59/1001 to see)
7. Complete the TSPDT list (on one provision, Empire must fall off)
Current daily average: 2.2 (will go massively doen as I won't see many movies in April, but I am almost at 200 films seen, meaning I am well ahead).

3 hour+ (counting round ups): 13 (including West of the Tracks and War and Peace)

Only 2 rewatches so far, and neither are from my list of favorite films, though La Bonheur did land in my top 50.

As for TSPDT I have more than met the half-life already - I'm down from 59 to 17, and most of the long films I had remaining have been catched over the last 3 months. Of the 3 hours+ films the only ones remaining are Hotel Terminus, As I Was Moving ..., Ludwig, Abraham's Valley and the 15 hour long Heimat (which is luckily a series, so easy to split up).

My interest in movies has come back but it feels more fragile than before. So with that in mind here's what I'd like to do in 2018:

1. Finally finish off the AFI 100 Years 100 Cheers list. I'm 2 movies away from completing it, I have them, just need to actually watch them. This has been a goal since 2016.

2. Finally watch the remaining available films from the BFI 360 Classics list. 3 are available but have no subs, so the "total" (for now) will be 362 and I'm 7 movies away from that. Has been a goal since 2016.

3. Make headway in my Conquer the World challenge. I'm close to having conquered Africa (need a movie from South Sudan and Somalia to have one from each country), but I'd like to reach a grand total of 150 conquered. I'm currently at 118, so it doesn't seem like too much of a stretch. 32 to go for now.

4. Reach gold on the TSPDT list. I'm right now 30 movies away from gold, but it's been slow going over the past year or so (I think I saw 7) so I may not reach that goal after the update.

5. Reach silver on the 100 Korean Films list. I'm currently 10 away from that goal. Should be doable.

6. Complete 1001 BYD list again. I'm 9 away from that. Not really a priority, but I'll see if i can't get around to it.

I may update this post if I think of something.
1. DONE! :)
2. DONE! :)
3. Need to get started on this, I've been sidetracked a bit by gialli.
4. Down to 20 checks before gold.
5. Down to 8 checks before silver.
6. Down to 8 checks before platinum.
Personal film goals for 2019.

- Get 5 new checks on all official lists (that I haven't already platinumed) - 63/187 so far

Very basic goals for this year (and a lot of cleanup). I'm setting minor goals for some of the lists, but the only additional one I will track is number of films on official lists.
I saw this year at one point I had 25 unchecked films on 25 or more official lists. I'd like to get it down to 20 unchecked films (or less) on 20 or more official lists. I currently have 48 unchecked films on 20 or more official lists (with a few more likely to be added after the new lists get adopted), so this will be a good, challenging goal, because most of those films I've been putting off for one reason or another over the years.

Excluding rewatches, I've seen 123 feature-length films in 90 days this quarter, including 51 in March alone (the challenges this month really helped). By far, the best quarter and month I've ever had filmwise. I'm starting to pick up the pace again with short films too.
I also broke down my long-term 10,000 film goal (I figure I should reach this by 2050 assuming I slow down to roughly 250 films per year after this year) into countries and decades. Since I'll hit 25% of that by the end of the year, I want to start evening out my film watching to be less USA- and 21st Century-centric. I'll post most once I hit 2500.

2015 goals finished: (2) 10 films from New Zealand, 4+ films from 100 directors
2016 goals finished: (4) 50 films from Japan, 10 films from Hungary, 25 films from 1986, 25 rewatches

A pretty typical month for me in March, all in all. Here's a breakdown of my progress, showing the number of checks needed at the beginning of the year, last month and today, with completed lists in bold, backslides in red and gains in green:
The push for Top 250 on every official listShow
1910s: 3-->5-->2
1950s: 1-->2-->2
1960s: 1-->1-->1

A.V. Club Best Films of the 00's: 1-->1-->1
Academy Award Best Pictures: 0-->0-->1
Amanda Award - Best Film: 1-->0-->0
Animation: 0-->0-->0
BBC's 100 Greatest Films of the 21st Century: 1-->1-->2
Belgian Film Awards: 1-->0-->0
Best of Rotten Tomatoes: 0-->5-->1
Cahiers du cinéma 100: 2-->2-->2
Cannes Film Festival - Palme d'Or: 1-->0-->0

Film-noir: 0-->1-->1
Golden Horse's 100 Greatest Chinese-Language Films: 0-->0-->0

Sight and Sound 2012 - Combined List: 15-->15-->11

TimeOut's 100 Best French Films: 2-->2-->2
Top 100 Bollywood Films: 3-->3-->3
Top 100 Spiritually Significant Films: 1-->1-->1
War: 1-->1-->1
And the breakdown so far:

Goal: Top 250 on every official list
Films left at start of year: 74
Target pace to meet goal: 6.17 checks/month
Checks left last month: 72
Checks left currently: 65
Checks left at this point in 2017/2016/2015: 79/73/49
Current pace: 3.0 checks/month
Top 300 goals completed this month: Film-noir
Lists that have (re)appeared this month: 2010s, Academy Award Best Pictures, Adventure, Film-noir and Mystery
Worst ranking this month: 2010s (#436)
Best goal-related rank: Guldbagge Award (#190)

The month saw a slightly below average performance on my part (I aim for a net 8-9 checks in progress towards the goal, last month was 7), but it doesn't feel that way, with only Film-noir flipping in and out of the completed column for one week, and four other lists appearing on the to-do list. Pretty typical overall, with the 2010s and Academy Awards lists bloating following the Oscars (I now officially need to see The Shape of Water to meet my goal for this year). Good progress on the 1910s and TSPDT lists, even if neither were completed this month.

Completed this goal.

I'll be busy this summer and I don't know what my employment will be like in the fall or winter, so I won't set any additional goals.

I won't have time to post at the end of the month so I'll give a quick update a few days early. Here's a breakdown of my progress, showing the number of checks needed at the beginning of the year, last month and today, with completed lists in bold, backslides in red and gains in green:

Reddit's causing me a bit of pain, having bloated from two checks needed to four in the last month due to their update, but otherwise it's a pretty typical month. My pace should pick up by the end of the summer since I still have lots of films available to me that share the S&S Combined and TSPDT lists. It'll be slow-going in the weeks ahead, though, because of an unexpected month-long move here at home.

I'm way beyond setting movie goals, but I got my left eye lased yesterday and watched 2 movies last night without difficulty.

Only "goal" I have involves Max's holistic system of awards for the 2018 official challenges. Would like to participate at least minimally in all 36, amass 300 points for the year, and end up with an overall score somewhere in the middle.

I continue my downward march in the rankings (high 110, 181 last I looked) and am doing a lot more rewatches.

Congrats on the eyework, I hope it stays good!

And rewatches are good for the soul, as you know. :)

Thanks, Crackpot. Yup, all 3 eyes functioning in their octogenarian way.

Now that I finally gave up and got FilmStruck (can only watch it on the iPad), I can revisit lots of stuff that I saw back in the days when I knew very little about The Cinema.

1 - Still one film to watch, and this is done. :)

2 - 183 more !

3 - Still 1 film to watch, but I'm taking my time on this one...

4 - 95 films to watch. I will try to be better on this one.

5 - Done ! B)
01. Only 1 film left, and it's on my schedule...

02. Well, the upgrade has removed 60 checks, so I'm further than ever from getting gold on this list. I'll keep working at it, though. Still 239 films to watch.

03. There has been an update. I don't think it makes much sense, still I have 2 more films to watch, now.

4. 91 movies before bronze, this a far-reaching goal as well, I guess...

5. This is over, moving on to the goals 2 and 4 (but I'll finish 1 as well, it's an easy fix)...

I spent the month going through the hassle of a move, so there wasn't as much opportunity to work on this goal as usual. Here's a breakdown of my progress, showing the number of checks needed at the beginning of the year, last month and today, with completed lists in bold, backslides in red and gains in green:
The push for Top 250 on every official listShow
1910s: 3-->2-->1
1950s: 1-->2-->2

BBC's 100 Greatest Films of the 21st Century: 1-->2-->1
Belgian Film Awards: 1-->0-->0
Best of Rotten Tomatoes: 0-->1-->1

Top 100 Bollywood Films: 3-->3-->0
Top 100 Spiritually Significant Films: 1-->1-->2
Top 250: 0-->0-->0
War: 1-->1-->1
And the breakdown so far:

Goal: Top 250 on every official list
Films left at start of year: 74
Target pace to meet goal: 6.17 checks/month
Checks left last month: 58
Checks left currently: 50
Checks left at this point in 2017/2016/2015: 85/65/30
Current pace: 4.8 checks/month
Top 300 goals completed this month: Action, Mystery, Paste's The 100 Best Anime Movies of All Time, TimeOut's 100 Best French Films, Top 100 Bollywood Films and Top 250
Lists that have (re)appeared this month: Action, TimeOut's 100 Best French Films and Top 250
Worst ranking this month: 2010s (#374)
Best goal-related rank: Adventure (#121)

A good amount of progress on various lists of lesser concern (Bollywood, TimeOut, Paste, etc.), but there's still a lot of pressure from the two juggernauts, TSPDT and Sight & Sound Combined, with both ratcheting up the Top 250 requirements by a couple of films in the last month. I'll have to confront them sooner than later.

Cheers guys! :cheers:

@Knaldskalle Well I know what I'll be doing for the next two years at least. I still don't really know what I'll be doing after that. Oh well, give me two more years to think about it.

Reasonable Goals
- Improve my ICM rank to 1500 (currently 1972)

- Get my rank for all lists under 5000 (53 lists to go) - Down to 9 lists to go
- Get 64 awards (currently at 52)
- Get a bronze on at least one of those ~1000 film top lists - Not Yet
- Get at least 5 watches in all 36 official challenges this year - So far so good

Stretch Goals (may not be attainable, but worth a shot)
- Improve my ICM rank to 1200 (currently 1972) - Next up... (1274 now)
- Get 3 new checks on all official lists (that I haven't already platinumed) - Doing OK - 129/187
- Get my rank for all lists under 2500 (142 lists to go) - 77 lists to go.
- Get 75 awards (currently at 52) - 66 currently
- Get a bronze on at least two of those ~1000 film top lists - Not Yet
- Get at least 10 watches in all 36 official challenges this year - 16/18 so far this year.

Unreasonable Goals (a boy can dream, right?)
- Improve my ICM rank to 1000 (currently 1972) - 1274 now
- Get 5 new checks on all official lists (that I haven't already platinumed) - 102/187 so far
- Get my rank for all lists under 1000 (172 lists to go) - Finally making progress... 167 to go.
- Get 90 awards (currently at 52) - 66 currently
- Get a bronze on at least three of those ~1000 film top lists - Not Yet

Halfway!

1. 4/26 so far, so waaaaaaay behind.
2. Done. I changed my goal to gold and that's done as well. Got exactly 450/500. I'll try to keep gold after the update.
3. Haven't started with this (although I accidentally watched some of those, because they were on my watchlist anyway). First working on #4.
4. 40 left
5. So far so good.

Should be doable to finish all goals this year.

Only 79 films this quarter (and only 7 in June), which may be the lowest quarter and month for me since I joined the forum. No rewatches, either. Despite this, I'm still on pace for a film day this year, and I've at least made some progress. My enthusiasm for the challenges have waned, so perhaps I'll be more focused on these goals when picking what to watch instead.

2015 goals finished: (1) 50 westerns
2016 goals finished: (3) 250 queer films, 50 films from Nordic countries, 25 films from 1987,

I think I'll take it a bit easy on this month's official challenges. I aim to pay some attention to the film-from-each-list challenge, which I've been neglecting of late. Using the streamlined option (one movie can count for multiple lists), I'm up to 158/190 and hope to make it to 170+ this month.
