It is a documentary, not a remake. But it has a lot to do with the book.

I watched it last night and it wasn't bad as a weird dystopia neo noir with a gimmick, but as someone who only knows pokemon through cultural osmosis there's so much the movie just takes for granted that the audience knows and it makes the whole thing much more confusing than it should be given how relatively straight forward the plot and characterizations are.

I created my 'best first time viewings on 2019' list last night and realised I've only given out three 7s this year, everything else has been 6 or below. Pretty disappointing, I hope I find at least one new proper favourite at some point this year :(

So, right now I keep track of my movies on ICM but I don't have a site where I rate my movies. To make it easier for myself I would like to keep ratings somewhere.

What do you guys use ?

Personal excel file ? IMDB ? … ?
I saved Latin, what did you ever do ?

I use IMDb and a spreadsheet. I also use Letterboxd and used to use Criticker, but I don't find either of those particularly useful for data. If you just want to record ratings and no other info, I'd go with IMDb (you can always export your ratings into a spreadsheet later and add other info if you want). Makes it easier to filter lists and use advanced search having it on IMDb.

I've fully converted from IMDb to Letterboxd. It looks nicer, it creates a "diary" of viewings, you can log rewatches, it has better search and sort functions, if you pay a bit per year then it generates cool stats pages - plus you can follow other users which means seeing their reviews and ratings first on every film page. I think that's a nice touch.

Edit: oh yeah and you can choose to rate out of 5 or 10, which would suit your rating system.

Thanks for the tips.

Guess I'll try out both IMDB and letterboxd and keep the one I like the most. Lots of work to do.

Throwing this out there... I also use IMDB and a spreadsheet, but if you're also into TV, I'd suggest trakt.tv. Trakt has a similar-ish feel to Letterbox, but has a TV focus to it. It's still great for movies, though.

Is it easy to import your ratings, through a csv or direct link, or is there manual work involved?

I recommend to use IMDb no matter what. Several tools use IMDb urls. You can often import your IMDb ratings to other sites (like iCM), etc...... It's also useful to filter your ratings to make a list for one of our polls. But I guess you can do the same from Letterbox. I don't know if Letterbox let you export stuff including an IMDb link. If not, keep using IMDb then. It makes your life easier for forum polls.

Personally I rate/check on four sites. I started using them in this order.
1. IMDb: Started keeping track here by rating stuff I watched. I started pretty early in my movie addiction, so I didn't have to rate a lot from memory or do rewatches to rate them.
2. iCM: To keep track of process in lists. Started for me with the Rosenbaum-list and one thing let to another......
3. Criticker: Started using it when I first joined a directors poll on this forum. Criticker easily gives you a list of directors sorted by your average rating and also shows how many movies you have seen by that director. You can import IMDb ratings to Criticker (unless the bug is still there, ask bal3x).
4. MovieMeter: Dutch site. I actually haven't got a good reason for starting there, other than beavis luring me into it. You can't import ratings, so I had to rate thousands of titles manually. The database is far from complete though, so I often add stuff to the site, which is a lot of work compared to adding a movie to iCM or even to Criticker.

For trakt, there's an external program that does it - but it's relatively painless. It can actually handle IMDB, ICM, Letterbox, etc. exports to get them into trakt.

^The importer claims it can only handle 1900 films at a time, but I'm sure I did all of mine at once and I had nearly double that.

People with 5k+ ratings might need to split their cvs file, but it's worth giving the whole lot a cheeky try.

You could export your icm checks, make it into an IMDb list and then just rate down the list? Don’t think there’s any faster way of doing it.

Also I found when I imported my ratings on letterboxd it got a lot of stuff wrong so clearly doesn’t go by urls.

I have my ratings on RYM for some reason, not sure why, but it works fine. Some good functions/stats as well, like average-ratings from friends and top lists for each year.

You could always add films to the database. Anyhow I don't watch really obscure stuff, so no problem for me.

I believe Letterboxd uses the TMDB API, so the IMDB tt-codes have to be entered there - if they're not, it might use a title search to find the best fitting film. Depending on when you imported your ratings, that may have been more of a problem. TMDB is getting a LOT better, so is probably less of an issue now. Hopefully.

The Toronto lineup has been revealed this year. See here.

-Exactly half of the "Gala" presentations are directed or co-directed by women.
-New Kasi Lemmons! Only her fifth film in more than 20 years
-I've been hearing about Edward Norton's Motherless Brooklyn since I don't remember when.

Not sure what you mean. It's either "import to" or "export from".
Assuming you mean you want to export your ratings from IMDb, yes that's possible. Go to your ratings (link is under your username on the right top). Click on the three dots at the top of the page. There's a button "export".

From what I understood from MightySparks it is possible to export your ICM checks to a CSV which I did and then import it to an IMDB list which I can then rate...

Or is only exporting from IMDB possible ?

Thanks in advance :imdb:

Ah, is that what you mean. You can copy all the IMDb urls from your checks and make an IMDb list out of this. First you have to install IMDb list helper (I assume you already have Greasemonkey or similar). Then create a list on IMDb. When you get to the page to add movies, you will see a box where you can copy the urls. Then hit start and your checks will be added to the list one by one, about one second per movie, so it can take a while depending on the number of urls.
