I'm afraid so as well. With the watching-speed of some users here, imagine the majority posting every movie they've seen. The lists will become enormous.
I'd rather see people posting their most interesting watches with a few words than rather posting everything they've seen with only a rating.

Otherwise it sounds just like a challenge thread :)

I doubt I'll post much in the weekly thread, and looking at the first one it still really blows my mind just how many films some of you folks watch in a week. To think that my friends think that I watch a lot :D

Occasionally, though, something really touches me or confuses me, so I suppose that'll be the place I post instead of the Last Film Seen thread.

Btw, did you guys do poll on the IMDb-boards? We love polls, because we love lists of movies (of course). We do 18 movie-polls a year. The last one was the UK-poll. The next deadline is in a week for the Sci-Fi-poll. Links are in the header on top of this forum. Please join.

I don't think a special IMDb section will be a good idea. Because we want them to incorporate them into our forum, with a special board they could become a kind of separate group in the forum.
I think first we have to screen these new numbers to see if they have "icm values".

Actually it's probably a bad idea to do troll posts to new members because they might get the wrong idea :P

It is likely to be a very good thing for this forum I imagine. I am another refugee, username oOgiandujaOo on IMDb, lots of quality users have already made their way here, can't see any trolls yet

Oh I'm definitely not complaining. A few of the regulars disappeared the past while, so it'll be great to have some new ones.

I'm assuming most if not all of the new imdb users here were part of doubling the canon as well, which is a great thing.

Should we let the IMDb Indian Cinema board know about this place? This forum needs more SRK vs Aamir Khan threads.

I think you've generated a lot of activity and interesting threads. I hope a few people you invite will stick around here in the absence of the IMDb forum.

I'm thinking that maybe we could start a sub-forum on here for IMDb. Just to see how it goes. Maybe it would attract more former IMDb users. We could have all of the IMDb projects in there. Doubling the Canon, the film festival and any other things that we could try to use from the IMDb forums. Maybe just see how it goes and we can remove it if it's not worth it.
You mean like a concentration camp?

Thanks for the compliments. I do also hope that they don't just register and maybe say hello, but that they actually stick around. But I agree with what Lonewolf2003 said, they aren't supposed to feel like the Other, but as an integrated part of the community. And there won't be THAT many new regular members from IMDb. But we'll see.

I was one of the programmers and it was a lot of fun, and not only because I've seen some great films. It's a great concept because most of the films stay fresh in most of participants' minds, so discussions go really in depth.

For me, It'll take a bit of getting used to to the dynamics of this forum and getting to know the regular posters. But, that's all part of the process and I'm looking forward to it.

Also, I just wanted to comment on PdA's suggestions. "Weekly threads" were the biggest reason why I never gave up FG, even when it was being destroyed by trolls. I'd love to see those threads introduced here. They always generated good discussions and recommendations. Same goes for "Top First Viewings".

The polls here are much more worthwhile and interesting. The more thorough polls with results that didn't ONLY have all the usual suspects were on the Classic Film board, in particular the yearly film poll, gradually going through all the years. One user is currently reposting the results of those polls in collection threads, if you are interested:
http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000010/nest/265734748
http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000010/nest/265780557

Also the results to the 2016 poll were just released:
http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000010/nest/265795091
The results for the best performances of 2016 in this poll are still coming up, since users were also asked for top 10's in the categories lead actress, lead actor, supporting actress and supporting actor.

I happened to conduct a Top 250 of the Film General board way back in 2009, but this was a completely different crowd back then:
http://members.chello.at/my.webspace/Th ... op_250.htm

One of the more interesting lists that board came up with in the past few years is this list of 500 films:
http://www.imdb.com/list/ls074219203/
But you probably can't really call it a poll, at least not in the conventional sense. Users were asked to submit 5 films to the list that they personally deemed special. That list was conducted by Stijak91, by the way, whom we already welcomed here as Cynical Cynephile.

It's wonderful how quickly and actively you've reacted to keep the few great regulars in touch and all the projects going.
IMDb, letterboxd

And through the palpable obscure find out

Upborn with indefatigable wings,
Over the vast abrupt, ere he arrive
The happy Ile?

Well here he is skidded out onto the Zone like a planchette on a Ouija board, and what shows up inside the empty circle in his brain might string together into a message, might not, he'll just have to see.

The old URL still works, it just redirects here. Easier to remember and let people know where we are.

Another IMDb refugee, nice to see other familiar IMDbers already set up camp here. This forum feels like a decent alternative to the subreddit.

Pretty much, with automatic updates followed by an annual reveal for those who didn't keep track.

I must admit I always felt much more intrigued by the FG results though. (Hope I'm not committing blasphemy against ICM now  )

Oh FG nostalgia.

Yes, the FG lists were interesting, especially the obscurity lists. I can't say I've followed this forum's version much. Had no idea there was an annual reveal. Maybe we could make a bigger event out of it, perhaps as a complement to the forum's top 1000. I'm not sure enough people here rate films on IMDb to make it representative though.

I didn't know either. The last time I saw a countdown of our highest rated list was several years ago. I think I only saw it once.

Yeah, I posted this already in the masterthread of the rolling list recently(-ish) that I would be in favor for another countdown thread of that list.
I mean, everyone can look at the website and see the current state, but a countdown is fun, and would perhaps give the list some more attention once in a while.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

I'm assuming most if not all of the new imdb users here were part of doubling the canon as well, which is a great thing.
I'm usually a DTC participant, and it would be great if this forum were the new location for it.

It already was. :woot:

Angel has been hosting it here the last 3 years complimentary to IMDb, and last year the forum Super Champion Film Zone was also included.

I think you are confusing the forums highest rated movies list with the forum favorite movie list.

I never posted anything on their boards, partly due to the fact you had to verify your account with financial information etc. which was just too cumbersome, but read some interesting threads on individual films/directors. Always sad to see film sites going through extermination though. I guess on the positive there will be more film discussion here.

I enjoyed reading the Asian Cinema Board's Recently seen thread to keep up with modern asian cinema. I wish that would continue here, but I don't think that will happen. (mjf posted there about the icmforum though)

There's nothing stopping you or anyone else from starting a similar thing here. I don't watch enough Asian cinema to be able to contribute meaningfully one way or another, but if someone's interested enough, no problem, go for it.

Hello, another soon-to-be-former IMDber here. How's everyone doing?
