There's nothing stopping you or anyone else from starting a similar thing here. I don't watch enough Asian cinema to be able to contribute meaningfully one way or another, but if someone's interested enough, no problem, go for it.
Yeah, would be lovely to get some more samurai cinema input.

Wow, with so many new arrivals, the balance of power is certainly going to shift, but where ?? Experimental mafia ? Horror mafia ? Rohmer mafia ?
These are interesting times for this forum indeed. And welcome to all newcomers. I'm glad there is so much activity here.

Yet another former IMDber. Though I by and large gave up the main boards after a brief and passionate spell on the Best and Worst board back in 2003, I was posting intermittently on FG and CFB all through last year as into-the-mystic, which is ultimately how I plunged into this forum.

Looking forward to contributing some while checking a few more movies in the process!

I plan to have an excellent weekend and got a bonus snow day yesterday as well. Great to see you m-d-f!

It really seems like a large percentage of the most intelligent/thoughtful/articulate IMDbers have made their way to this forum. Though if any of you know of others who would be welcome as well make sure you PM them before the time runs out!

Well, I'd been on IMDb for almost 12 years. Always had a love-hate relationship with it, but I am too lazy to post on multiple film boards at once so apart from a few brief exceptions I mostly stuck with it. Started posting mostly on Best & Worst - it was actually a viable forum at the time - and fairly quickly started posting in the yearly polls there, and just as quickly got irritated with the guy running them (can't remember his name) who wouldn't allow anything but features and would get very, very bitchy at anyone who disagreed with him at all. Moved on to Film General and the Classics Board eventually, posted a bit on Westerns and Science Fiction. The latter is a good example of a forum killed by one user - not a troll, just an arrogant POS who insisted that everybody see the genre in the exact same very weird way he did, and as he posted all the time and overwhelmed the already somewhat light traffic there eventually most of the few good users departed.

Anyway I enjoyed my experience enough to stick with it for almost 12 years but that is probably mostly laziness and self-hatred - didn't think and still don't think I'm worthy to post on boards full of people who actually know things and have done things. But I guess if I don't I'll have nowhere to go - so here I am and I hope not to make the same mistakes or get into the same idiotic, petty squabbles I did there.
Here's to the fools who dream.

Hello ...

First post on this message board; we'll see how much I need to learn about posting, when this message appears.

As with poster "outdoorcats", I too am a refuge from the IMDb Classics board. My screen name there was the same as my screen name here ... Lechuguilla (you can call me Lech).

Over at IMDb, I administered the Classics Board's Yearly Polls for a couple of years. And have been writing film reviews over there since approx 2003.

It's actually hard to comprehend how such a massive source of information that has taken years to build and so much effort by many people can just simply be deleted...

Yep, it's over. A few hours earlier than I expected. Just popped in to have one last look. We knew it was coming, but it's still strange to see them gone. Hopefully some consensus will form and many of the familiar names will find a common place to gather and keep the spirit going. But, as I and many others have noted over the past couple of weeks, the specific boards for films and individuals are an irreplaceable resource. A sad day indeed.

Wow, I'm shocked! I thought it would happen sometime...well, on the actual 20th, probably in the afternoon. Not the night of the 19th. I know that imdb actually started in the UK but I figured they would go by US time as a part of amazon. A part of my past is gone now. :(

Yea, the seemingly early timing of the actual IMDB boards disabling threw me for a loop a bit, but I think that is indeed the case where they were going by U.K. time (the boards went down shortly after midnight on February 20, U.K. time). It is odd to look at one's IMDB profile page with no board postings on it, and it seems like the Friends list is no longer accessible as well, from what I'm seeing? Pretty lame stuff, but what can ya do.

The friends list being gone is just plain stupid from my POV. They still want us to create lists and have content, but not be able to access other people's lists? Oh wait we're supposed to exclusively use Facebook for that! Fuck those fucking fuckers.

Best you can do if you're not on social media is google a user's name I guess. I had a few lists bookmarked but I guess I won't be stumbling on any interesting ones by accident anymore.

Oh and it's small comfort but I predicted the early closing on the CFB - I said it would go down at the beginning of Monday GMT while most others were saying Cali time. I still missed saving a couple of things I wanted to but I mostly did the stuff I needed to over the last couple of days.

Yep - fuck them right in their fucking asses. I was hoping the Friends list was going to stay intact but shame on me for thinking these assholes wouldn't take away an additional useful user feature.

But yes, as for alternative methods for keeping up with IMDB friends' profiles (their lists, what they've watched lately, etc.), don't forget that ACT-1 guy's website that has a lot of regulars' usernames/profile links on it: http://www.actwon.com/imdb/profiles.htm. And I've used the ol' Google search trick as well for finding profiles by username if I didn't already have them on my friends list, so that certainly works.

So, here's a question for all the new recruits (or IMDb refugees, if you prefer) - how many of you are active on iCM (icheckmovies.com)?

I started using it when I migrated here. I might like it more than IMDb, as a matter of fact.

We had a couple of days without mass Naeemaking at least. The IMDb stopped the creation of new accounts when the annoucement was made, by the end he simply ran out of unbanned socks. Actwon traces him back to 2009 on the Soapbox. An impressionable kid that got bullied and has spent 8 years of his life's work getting the boards shut down... and succeeded.

One of the reasons liberalism has got a bad name in the last few years is because liberals do things like this, instead of engage with dissent they marginalise, ridicule and ostracise. It is simply not acceptable or realistic to treat opposing opinions with a facepalm any more. (message from a fellow liberal).
