Lookalike actors (From different eras)

#1

Post by Laydback » January 29th, 2015, 12:12 am

If you roam enough movie-forums, the "Actors who look like they're related" topic is a popular one. But I know that this place can give that thread a twist because it's well-versed in films that go waaay back. So have any of your movie-checks in B&W films of yesteryear or lesser-known foreign films resulted in you saying, "Hey, that actor looks like so and so!"

To start off:

Rochelle Hudson/Carla Cugino
Image
Jack Lemmon/Lew Ayres
Image
Marc Lawrence/Don Gordon
Image
(Young) George Sanders & Randall from Clerks :D
Image

I'm too lazy to look up her name, but the lead actress in Pickpocket reminded me a lot of Natalie Portman.

What twins can you think of?

I have a list of these somewhere, but here's the first pairing that comes to my mind (I don't have time to search out the most look-alike-y photos, so these will have to do):

ImageImage

Dan Duryea and William H. Macy

(I don't know if these photos bring it out, but if you know the two actors in general and picture them in your mind, the resemblance will be striking, I think.)

^I see it.

From that pic, William Sanderson could also double for Duryea.

Drew Barrymore/Zita Johann
Image

John Cassavettes/Barry Primus
Image
They're actually of the same era, but it seems like John's from a different time just because he's been gone for so long.

The pair of Clint Eastwood and Hugh Jackman is famous for this.

And the lead actor of Sult reminded me of Johnny Depp. But I guess it's mostly because of his body language rather than just looks.

Rosalba Neri/Emily Blunt

Lon Chaney Sr/James Remar

I don't know who the actor is at 5:18, but he looks a lot like Daily Show's John Stewart...

...Who's reportedly leaving the show because he's got an acting bug.

Laydback, you have a talent for this. All the ones you've listed are remarkable. If you colorized the Zita Johann pic, I'd swear it was Drew. And Cassavetes and Primus are literally hard to tell apart.

Great ones. I especially like the George Sanders/Randall and the Lon Chaney Sr/James Remar ones.

I recently saw those screenshots...

...and thought to myself: "Is that Laurence Olivier or Kevin Kline?"

ImageImage

I'm sure you can find better matches, Laydback, but surely it's not just me who sees a resemblance?
They don't look too unlike each other without the beards either.

Gloria Talbott (All That Heaven Allows) & Emily Mortimer

and one of my favorite match-ups (sorry for using prefabricated comparison shots for this one, but there's no need to pretend that I'm the first one to notice the resemblance that they are the same person)
Jessica Harper (Suspiria) & Frances O'Conner (A.I.)

Apropos Carla Gugino, she reminds me more of Yvonne Furneaux (Repulsion, La Dolce Vita).

Although she also has something of Tommy Wiseau (he IS a man from a different era...on another planet):

I posted something, in the silent challenge I think, how the (not Lon Chaney) guy in The Unknown looked a lot like Kevin Kline. or James Adomian.

I also have a friend who is a doppelganger for Ludivine Sagnier. Somewhere I have her pic and one side and Ludivine's on the other and the resemblance is so frightening.

Today I was watching a movie with Zofia Marcinkowska and thought she looked a lot like Isabelle Huppert.

Another one of Huppert. Same hair and almost same head angle as Zofia's pic above (right).

Sorry if any of the images turn out to be too big. They're not from different eras though. Shane Carruth and Keanu Reeves?

I do see a resemblance between Keanu and Shane Carruth there, although I think there's even more resemblance between Keanu and Tchaikovsky.

Yes, I always thought of Shane Curruth and Don Hertzfeldt being alike. It helps that both are the greatest current independent filmmakers.
It's funny that you used an image of Don that was taken in Vienna in my favorite theater one day before I met him.^^

Good call on the Keanu resemblance too.
Personally I think Keanu looks like Keanu...the immortal Keanu.

I just watched the new Chris Cornell music video "Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhJ9IwYc5NU)
and I was convinced that the witch(?) was played by Kari Wuhrer, I was mildly impressed that she still looked like 25 but she seemed
to have enough botox in her lips and wear enough makeup for it (plus I haven't seen her in anything in about 15 years so who knows how she looks now).

Image

But apparently it is somebody known as Elena Satine. In the pictures I found there certainly is a resemblance but none of them were
quite convincing (hence why I'm still not quite convinced it isn't actually Kari Wuhrer in the video) so I'll just post a screenshot from the video.

replying to older posts, with the Keanu Reeves chronology, which I've seen before, a lot, I think they should replace the 1994 picture with a snap of him from Much Ado About Nothing where he has a beard and looks exactlyexactly like the later pictures.

They say directors sometimes like to cast actors who look like themselves. Guess this is true here.
Just announced, Keanu will be in The Modern Ocean with Anne Hathaway, Daniel Radcliffe, Chloe Grace Moretz, Tom Holland, Asa Butterfield, Abraham Attah and Jeff Goldblum. Shane Carruth is directing.

I'm already looking forward to amusing behind-the-scenes stories of people on the set
accidentally walking up to Keanu Reeves to ask him for instructions for the next scene, Keanu playing
along pretending to be Carruth, and Carruth during his promotional tour jokingly blaming Keanu for
scenes in the film he isn't happy with because of Keanu's poor directing.
