I've seen 97. I think there are some experimental lovers here like Dolwphin who have seen more than you.

EDIT: No, he has seen 79. Perceval 85. I think you win EW. Be proud of it!

Using this btw: https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/stan ... adatriste/
No, no...you misunderstood. When I wrote "But I've seen 132 Brakhage films, and I can't imagine anyone else would come close to that tally," I meant "But I've seen 132 Brakhage films, and I can't imagine I've seen close to 132 films by any other director." :)

I wouldn't expect 132 to be the highest tally among ICM users, but I haven't given the issue any thought until now. I know others have seen more of Brakhage's official checks than I have, but maybe I've worked harder to see his unofficial checks.

Incidentally, on the subject of "experimental lovers," I've been seeing *dozens* of experimental/avant-garde shorts lately, and I'm finding that many of them are on Insomnius's favorites list (https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/inso ... insomnius/). So, he's definitely a top user in this realm. I haven't really "noticed" Dolwphin, but I'll look him up.

FitFortDanga is a friend of mine and I know he's a Brakhage lover...he has seen 121, according to that filmography list.

And insomnius has seen "only" 92, so it seems like you're the biggest Brakhage-fan around here. :P

Well, I haven't seen around 35 of Brakhage's official checks, so...grumble. I note five ICM users who have seen a lot of the official checks that I haven't found:

aldo21: 125 seen
allisoncm: 124 seen
crazy_bitch: 124 seen
el-thedeath: 129 seen
Ergun: 130 seen

So maybe I indeed have seen the most Brakhage films, overall. But I wish I knew how those folks found so many official checks that I haven't found myself. 30+ of them, in most cases.

And "Coupling" (2004) is unofficial but has 43 checks...I don't know where (relatively) so many people found it. Oh! I just had a fresh thought -- I bet many of those people believed they were checking one of the TV comedy series with the same title. Groan.

Same here, except for I have seen all the ones you haven't. But, I haven't seen Flags of Our Fathers, American Sniper, Invictus, Jersey Boys, Hereafter, and True Crime among the features. And there's a movie Breezy (1973) which I have never even heard of before.

Hitch, Spielberg, etc. are all close together but somehow I've seen lots of Eastwood movies.

For short films I'll bet I've seen a very large proportion of Chuck Jones stuff growing up, but I haven't bothered to check most of those.

I've seen 49 by Michael Curtiz. That has to be my winner.

I've avoided this topic up till now since it seemed like a lot of work, but thanks to all the previous posters' lists I've had plenty of suggestions and reminders to help me along. Here's a rough Top 10 including only directors of feature length films (including whatever shorts they may have created in their totals, though):

1 . Michael Curtiz 57
2 . John Ford 51
3 . Alfred Hitchcock 46
4 . Woody Allen 43
5 . William Beaudine 37
6 . George Cukor 34

9 . Leo McCarey 29
10 . John Huston 28
10 . Akira Kurosawa 28
10 . Martin Scorsese 28
10 . Steven Spielberg 28

The odd man out there is William Beaudine, I guess, the product of a huge Bowery Boys kick a few years back. If I include the directors of shorts (primarily), especially animated shorts, the list changes significantly - I'm still adding to this list as names come to me but this is what I have so far:

Trivia question for the above (full) list: What are the top three ranking directors who do not have any films on an official list? Answers in spoilers below:
#1Show
5. Paul J. Smith: Prolific director of (mainly) Woody Woodpecker cartoons. I'm surprised the first entry in his Chilly Willy series didn't make it onto one of the cartoon lists. It's not fantastic, but it was popular in its day.
#2Show
8. Seymour Kneitel: Another prolific director at Fleischer Studios, he worked on a lot of popular series including Betty Boop, Popeye and Casper the Friendly Ghost, but I don't see anything he directed that really stands out as being list-worthy (after just a cursory look). He did provide animation for Gulliver's Travels, though, which is official.
#3Show
15. Alex Lovy: Yet another prolific director at multiple studios, including Walter Lantz Productions, Hanna-Barbera and Warner Brothers in their final days.
And in case you were wondering...Show
All directors of (primarily) feature length films on this list have directed at least one film on an official list. Of these, I think only Edward Bernds and Edward L. Cahn have only one official check to their name.
Again, all of this was done in haste so if you find anything wrong or have other suggestions for directors please let me know!

92 Wong Jing films?? I am utterly stunned. What would one gain from such a torturous exercise?

The average rating is pretty decent. I find them quite amusing, they're pretty short and there's plenty of silliness. It's pretty good filler.

Oh, and it's 93. The 92 is from the previous list (which I didn't post here, so I get that it makes little sense). I make one once every 4 months.

Sadly, despite all my posturing as someone who knows something about film, the most I've seen from any director is 41 features, by Fassbinder :( guess I better start watching more Wong Jing.

Or go for Miike, at least he has a little arthouse clout. It's easier to impress people with that :p

Didn't Miike just pass 100 films? I seem to remember reading that the other day.

It's mostly a promotional number for the Blade of the Immortal release. It's supposed to be somewhere in the vicinity, but nobody seems to be able to agree on an exact number.

@DareDaniel: I wonder which ones I'm missing compared to you. I'm guessing Mole Song 2 is one of them.

I haven't seen that one yet, still waiting for subs.
I've seen all these: https://letterboxd.com/daredaniel/list/takashi-miike/

There are a few more films that are available on cinemageddon, but sadly I don't have an account there anymore.

We're No Angels 2 is the one I am missing. The other one was Demon Pond, but I didn't count that one.

I realized that I have seen 42 Frederick Wiseman films.

Basically, everything he has made except for the unreleased and legally contested The Garden and his new film Ex Libris, for which I was out of town on a trip when they were screening it locally.

Are you Greek?
Never mind, I found the answer in your iCM-profile.

Being from a country doesn't mean you have to have seen a lot of movies from that country. I'm Dutch, but I haven't seen a lot of Dutch movies, maybe slightly above average of people here.

I've noticed quite a few Greek members on iCM who have seen a lot of Greek movies. Any idea what the reason is?
Take this list for example:

I've got 61 checks, which is probably a lot more than most people here.

Dimitris Psachos Springer: 220 checks

Hey, that's a very comprehensive list; I hadn't noticed it before. You seem to be more knowledgeable about Greek cinema than the average Greek viewer. I've had you as a Kumpel on Criticker for some time now, the amount of films you have seen is formidable. I saw you posting O Fovos as Film of the Week a while ago, but didn't know you had seen that many Greek films.

I'm not that big on Greek cinema, especially the contemporary one; I've seen about 500 Greek movies and, apart from the 50 films on the The Best Greek Films list I've compiled, I find that most of the rest of Greek movies I've seen are varying degrees of crap. It's only natural for a Greek to have seen a lot of Greek movies because they're on Greek TV all the time, especially ones from the Golden Age of Greek cinema (1950s and 1960s). You can catch 10 or 15 of those movies on Greek channels on any given day.

That's pretty amazing. I haven't watched TV for a few years, but as far as I know they mostly screen stuff from the last 5 to 10 years. Most movies on Dutch TV are foreign anyway. Dutch movies are a minority and especially the classics.

I've seen 8 films from that list... and disliked 4 of them :D

I've got 8 more watchlisted, though, so hopefully the watch:dislike ratio will improve.

12 Oi peripeteies tou Villar 1924 — a.k.a. The Adventures of Villar - dislike
29 O magos tis Athinas 1931 — a.k.a. The Wizard of Athens - dislike
130 Synoikia to Oneiro 1961 - like
136 Ilektra 1962 — a.k.a. Electra - dislike
149 Mikres Afrodites 1963 — a.k.a. Young Aphrodites - dislike
172 Ta kokkina fanaria 1963 — a.k.a. The Red Lanterns - like
187 O fovos 1966 — a.k.a. The Fear - like
201 Oi voskoi 1967 — a.k.a. Thanos and Despina - indifferent

No Angelopoulos yet; his films don't look particularly appealing to me, to be honest, but I'll check him out at some point.

Agree with your likes / dislikes. Synoikia to Oneiro is a cool piece of neorealist cinema. The Red Lanterns is among my favorites.

Regarding Angelopoulos, proceed with caution if you're not a fan of contemplative cinema.

Yeah, Oneiro was a pleasant surprise. Only watched Red Lanterns and O Fovos in the past few months, otherwise the overall picture would be bland. Contemplative cinema does not call to me, but I think Angelopoulos is too important/notable a director to skip completely.

Haha I noticed this earlier for some reason. I think these are some of the few instances where you and I disagree completely; normally I find your recommendations/tastes/ratings very similar to mine.
