PM alerts

#1

Post by AdamH » May 10th, 2013, 2:40 pm

Some people have said, in the past, that it is difficult to notice when you have a new PM because it is hidden away in the top-right corner of the forum.

If you go to inbox then pm system settings (above where your messages show) then you can turn on "Display an alert whenever you receive a new PM".

Thanks, Adam. I went there and found that I do have that checked but haven't got any alerts except for a tiny one that isn't noticeable unless I look which I don't because I get so few PMs.

Anyway, what is "automatic message tracking" mean and do I have to check that too?

Also, how do I delete a message? Seem to have gotten some spam.

[Anybody seriously wants to PM me can do so on ICM proper.]

If someone sends you a PM now (I'll send a test one) then you should get a much more noticeable notification.

Automatic message tracking doesn't matter for getting the notifications. It means you can track if someone has read a PM you have sent them.

To delete messages, go to your inbox then check the boxes on the right for the messages you want to delete. Then select archive (at the bottom, under the inbox). You then have to go to archive (on the left under inbox), check the boxes of the messages you want to delete and select delete at the bottom.

I have no idea why they make you archive the messages first but that's the way it is on here.

OK, thanks. Deleted spam and read messages, notification not noticeably larger but at least I know were to look now.

I haven't been getting inbox notices of subscribed forum threads, how do I fix this? Thanks.

I don't think it works that way, at least I've never received any notifications on subscribed threads either. I think of it as just a convenient place to "store" all the threads you're interested in.

Bottom right, to the left of the forum clock, it says "Track Topic", now, clicking it does nothing, while opening it in a new tab says this:

Where is that?

The track topic button works fine for me. It doesn't pop up anything, but it adds a topic to the tracked topics list in the control panel.

So you got a PM every time the thread got a reply? I've never gotten that, and can't find any setting where that would be toggled.

Getting those PM's helped me tremendously. Anyone else received these messages?

Any of the other moderators or site creators have seen this and know how to turn it back on?

Hello AdamH!

From this website: http://docs.zetaboards.com/acp/zetaboar ... mpcontrols, I found this:
Enable email based subscription notifications

ZetaBoards Premium offers notifications via email on several areas of your board. These include:

New reply to topic - By subscribing to topics, users can opt in to receive an email when the topic receives a new reply.
New topic in forum - By subscribing to forums on your board, users can opt in to receive an email when the forum has a new topic posted within it.
There are advantages and disadvantages to email based subscription notifications. You can use this option to globally enable or disable all email notifications on your board. By default, this option is set to No.

Yeah, I googled the PM alerts and I saw something about Zetaboards Premium.

We'd have to pay $7.99/month. We did a free trial once years ago. I really don't think it's worth it at all because the extra features don't seem like much of an improvement. Maybe others have a different opinion?

Zetaboards Premium

I'm not sure how you were able to have the PM alerts when we don't have Zetaboards Premium. I doubt many (if any) others on the forum even knew the feature existed.

Yeah, the question is how you were able to get the PMs if the board setup hasn't changed. Also those are email alerts, not PMs. Premium on zeta doesn't seem very worthwhile.

I'm fine with the way things are now - unchanged is nice for a change in a world that seems obsessed with changing for change's sake.

Thanks for checking on it though.
