How to know if you are an IMDB Top 1000 voter

#41

Post by PeacefulAnarchy » April 11th, 2014, 8:31 pm

If I had to guess I'd say every third person in the Top 1000 has lot of negative votes and doesn't really like movies. It's why I don't give the Top 1000 much credence.

Yes, I see a lot of 1/10 votes in the top1000 imdb. FOR EVERYTHING. Onderhond are you in top1000 buddy?
Could be, I gave ROTK a 1/10 ... with 4799 ratings I don't think I'd qualify though. Then again, most (99.9%) of those ratings are for feature films (not even shorts), so maybe that counts for something.

Almost positive that I'm a top 1000 voter so...that's cool, I guess.

Interesting. I'm pretty sure I'm nowhere near that top1000 though. I never rate tv episodes btw. Too bored to do it.

You don't have to rate tv episodes to be in the top 1000 voters. I have no idea what are their criteria but it's not just a matter of how many ratings you've got.

On what do you base this on?
http://www.imdb.com/help/show_leaf?topvoters
The top 1000 voters consist of the 1000 people who have voted for the most titles in our ratings poll.

Simply on the fact that I don't rate tv episodes but I'm one of the top 1000 voters.

I have rated 8.032 titles but only 20 of them are tv episodes.

But 8k+ is enough to be a top 1000 voter I think. I have slightly more ratings than you and it includes a lot of TV episodes.

There are some people who legitimately hate LotR. Here are some better examples (less hateable, higher percentage 1-votes).

17.4%: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053114/ratings-top_1000
13.2%: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0041154/ratings-top_1000

Trolls like to pretend they are old women because they think imdb does demographic weighting and that makes their vote count more.

Why? Why? Why would you go to all the trouble to create fake accounts, mass vote, just to down rate films people like? That just makes me a very depressed grizzly :'(

I KNOW I'm not in the top 1000 without looking. Don't rate films ever. (Guess I could sell my ID to some troll....)

I remember confirming I was a top 1000 voter back in July 2005 (with about 6000 votes) and had been for at least three years at that point. I don't remember checking between 2006 and 2012, but then in 2013 I tried again and, to my surprise, I wasn't one any more! I tried three separate times, I think, and the test came up negative each time. I would have had around 13000 votes then and was voting regularly (to my mind anyway, roughly 10-15 votes per week), but none of them (or at least very few of them) TV episodes. I think I'll try again soon, just to see if it was a fluke...

I don't think whoever rate LOTR: Return of the King 1/10 should be a troll.. It is not, and IMO there is no film ever, that is absolutely loved universally.

And 80 people out of 1000 seems to be a reasonable ratio to me for that movie, keeping in mind that many people use binary ratings (10 for like, 1 for dislike).
I'm not saying LOTR should be so high in the top 250,
It is already so high in Top 250.. :)

Looks like I entered the top 1000 voters club sometime this week.

I currently have 6734 ratings on Imdb (a lot of shorts).

I have (around 30) more ratings than that, so I just checked and it looks like I am a top 1000 voter now too ^_^

All imdb members who check if they're in the top pretentious members should be ban of it actually. If they know, they care, if they care, they'll be able to create false votes.

(I've checked four times today, and I'm proud to announce that I'm not part of this pretentious group -- maybe it's related to my recent gender reassignment.)

What should be loudly announced it's the deletion if this stupid group. Every times I check their ratings, if it's a foreign film or whatever, a new film which looks like a mafia film, they give it a 1. Actually the top 1000 is mostly interesting to show that a lot of 'big contributors' of the site are more trolls giving bad marks to what they don't want to see that high. There is the family or crew ratings (always 10), there's mafia films (hey, cinephiles of India, we know there's outstanding films out there, but how discriminate a genuine masterpiece than a mafia film when they all have ratings between 9 and 10? it's not for the best of your domestic culture), and there's the top 1000 zeros with their readjustment ratings. It's like in sport: when the referees know that they have made a mistake they tend to whistle favorably for the disadvantaged team; and by doing so you generate even more injustice. Top of the trolls.

Another example of the useless of the top 1000:
Image
The rating was to high, so 6 voters (probably a gang or the same troll member) decided to recalculate the average vote.

And who were these 6 voters?

If I was a member of the club, and I'm neither saying I am or am not, I would be uncomfortable posting that claim online. After all, isn't one of the most secret of secret societies? We barely know how to deduce if one is a member, let alone know the secret handshake.

Today I realized I'm in the top 1000 while I was checking the average rating for a few tv episodes I watched yesterday (binge watching a tv series that have tv episodes with only 5-8 votes is apparently an easy way to figure out whether you're in the top 1000  ). I don't know when exactly I entered, but I know I wasn't in it a few years ago. I currently have 12,904 ratings on IMDB but iirc I wasn't in the top 1000 when I was somewhere below/near 10,000 ratings.

Welcome? To a club that doesn't exist but which has members who know who they are!

Wow, sounds super secret (not, if people talk about it in a public forum) and being a member must confer wondrous special rights and responsibilities to shape the future of cinema for generations to come.

If I didn't now better, I'd wonder of the IMDb Top 1000 were "the invisible hand" or "deep state" or some other shadowy organization. :ph43r:
