The checks continued to melt away in March, so quickly that if the pace continues (not that it will) I'll be done my goal by the end of May! Here's a breakdown of my progress, showing the number of checks needed at the beginning of the year, last month, and today, with completed lists in bold, backslides in red and gains in green:
The push for Top 175 on every official list
1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die: 7-->8-->4
A.V. Club's The Best Movies of the 2010s: 1-->1-->0
Amanda Award - Best Norwegian Film: 1-->0-->0
Annecy Festival's 100 Films for a Century of Animation: 6-->4-->3
BFI's 360 Classic Feature Films Project: 2-->0-->0
Cahiers du Cinéma's 100 Films for an Ideal Cinematheque: 1-->1-->1
Empire Russia's 100 Best Russian Films: Readers' Choice: 2-->0-->0
FOK!'s Film Top 250: 1-->0-->0
Harvard's Suggested Film Viewing: Narrative Films: 2-->0-->0
Hürriyet's The 100 Best Movies of Turkish Cinema: 2-->0-->0
IMDb's 1910s Top 50: 2-->0-->0
IMDb's 1920s Top 50: 1-->0-->0
IMDb's 1970s Top 50: 0-->1-->1
IMDb's Animation Top 50: 1-->0-->1
IMDb's Shorts Top 50: 0-->1-->1
OFCS's Top 100 Animated Features of All Time: 1-->0-->0
Reddit Top 250: 1-->1-->1
Sight & Sound's The Greatest Films of All Time: 11-->6-->4
Total Sci-Fi's The 100 Greatest Sci-Fi Movies: 1-->0-->0
TSPDT's 1,000 Greatest Films: 14-->10-->5

And the breakdown so far:

Goal: Top 175 on every official list
Films left at start of year: 57
Target pace to meet goal: 4.75 checks/month
Checks left last month: 33
Checks left currently: 21
Checks left at this point in 2020/2019/2018/2017/2016/2015: 69/66/63/79/71/47
Current pace: 12 checks/month
Top 175 goals completed this month: A.V. Club's The Best Movies of the 2010s
Lists that have (re)appeared this month: IMDb's Animation Top 50
Worst ranking this month: IMDb's Shorts Top 50 (#214)
Best goal-related rank(s): OFCS's Top 100 Animated Features of All Time (#112)
Median ranking on all lists: #59 (The Criterion Collection and BFI's 100 Documentary Films), #60 (Lola Award - Best German Film and Belgian Film Award - Best Film)
Overall Ranking: 17-->13-->13
With three new lists on the horizon progress will slow no doubt, but regardless I plan to hold out on Napoleon until the end of the year just in case there's a screening somewhere in the world, so my 2021 goal won't be complete any time soon. I know, I know, fat chance of a screening with COVID still around, but there's a new restoration of the 7-hour Apollo version due to be released in about a month, so maybe there will be something by year's end if things greatly improve due to the vaccines - I hold out hope...

I closed 2020 at 825/1000 and now I’m at 858/1000. Good progress.
888/1000, despite two drop offs.
907/1000. Doesn’t look like much progress, but still managed a film a day last month. The other films were remakes, sequels, prequels, spin-offs or whatever related to films on the BOM list.
923/1000. Had a couple of days during the beginning of the month where I didn’t watch a film at all, but otherwise pretty much the same as last month.

I have noticed that my enthusiasm to leap into new big projects after last year's TSPDT platinum extravaganza leaves much to desire for. :lol: Because of this, I have moderated my goals for the rest of the year and left more room for watching whatever I feel like (as I have done so far during the first four months).

My goals for 2021:
1. Regain lost platinums (except IMDb genre and decade lists) - 8 films to watch (IMDb top 250, TSPDT top 1000, Academy Award for Best Picture)
2. Recomplete watching all films on 10+ official lists - 14 films to watch
3. Complete a list of 50 films from 50 genres, chosen by my friend and myself to watch and discuss during the year - 49 films to watch

MYMSBYD and S&S platinums have to wait for later years. tehe

Somehow I've been able to keep up the pace in April and we're down to the single digits in record time this year. Here's a breakdown of my progress, showing the number of checks needed at the beginning of the year, last month, and today, with completed lists in bold, backslides in red and gains in green:
The push for Top 175 on every official list
1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die: 7-->4-->1
A.V. Club's The Best Movies of the 2010s: 1-->0-->0
Academy Award - Best Picture: 0-->0-->1
Amanda Award - Best Norwegian Film: 1-->0-->0
Annecy Festival's 100 Films for a Century of Animation: 6-->3-->2
BFI's 360 Classic Feature Films Project: 2-->0-->0
Cahiers du Cinéma's 100 Films for an Ideal Cinematheque: 1-->1-->1
Empire Russia's 100 Best Russian Films: Readers' Choice: 2-->0-->0
FOK!'s Film Top 250: 1-->0-->0
Harvard's Suggested Film Viewing: Narrative Films: 2-->0-->0
Hürriyet's The 100 Best Movies of Turkish Cinema: 2-->0-->0
IMDb's 1910s Top 50: 2-->0-->0
IMDb's 1920s Top 50: 1-->0-->0
IMDb's 1970s Top 50: 0-->1-->1
IMDb's Animation Top 50: 1-->1-->1
IMDb's Shorts Top 50: 0-->1-->0
OFCS's Top 100 Animated Features of All Time: 1-->0-->0
Reddit Top 250: 1-->1-->1
Sight & Sound's The Greatest Films of All Time: 11-->4-->0
Total Sci-Fi's The 100 Greatest Sci-Fi Movies: 1-->0-->0
TSPDT's 1,000 Greatest Films: 14-->5-->1
And the breakdown so far:

Goal: Top 175 on every official list
Films left at start of year: 57
Target pace to meet goal: 4.75 checks/month
Checks left last month: 21
Checks left currently: 9
Checks left at this point in 2020/2019/2018/2017/2016/2015: 40/52/56/75/71/36
Current pace: 12 checks/month
Top 175 goals completed this month: IMDb's Animation Top 50, IMDb's Shorts Top 50, and Sight & Sound's The Greatest Films of All Time
Lists that have (re)appeared this month: Amanda Award - Best Norwegian Film, and IMDb's Animation Top 50
Worst ranking this month: IMDb's Animation Top 50 (#229)
Best goal-related rank(s): OFCS's Top 100 Animated Features of All Time (#114)
Median ranking on all lists: #59 (The Criterion Collection, Belgian Film Award - Best Film, and TSPDT's 21st Century's Most Acclaimed Films)
Overall Ranking: 17-->13-->13

There's a new must-see film on the lists, Nomadland, because of the Oscar win, in addition to the others that look to be required this year (e.g. Napoleon, Synecdoche). I'm curious to see how the new lists change these numbers, I'll most likely be working on them if necessary in the month ahead.

It's been 1 month and I've seen 3 series (and close to finishing a 4th), so I'm doing well so far.
It's been 2 months and 1 week, and I've seen 6 series, so I'm still on pace to reach my goal.
It's been 4 months, and I've seen 13 series (12 anime and 1 Taiwanese drama). I just need to watch 4 more Asian dramas to reach my goal.

I'm hoping to watch at least 3 Japanese dramas this month. I also want to watch at least 1 Thai drama this year.

beavis wrote: January 1st, 2021, 1:12 pm OK, first time posting goals on this forum.
1/3 of the year done, maybe a good time for another update on my goals

participate more in challenges on this forum
January: 1000<400 done
February: Benelux done and won
March: Female Directors done
April: Doubling Nominations done
and if I haven't tired of it by then, May: Japan haven't exactly tired, but I do want to move forward on other goals now

Countries:
Main focus: Germany going very well with 47 watches, but hasn't been a complete focus due to the challenges
Other countries: Mexico, Philippines, Sweden, Canada, India and South-Korea all of them going fine, Netherlands has turned out to be number 1 though
also US-independent cinema this is going on the back-burner I feel, just like the last few years, there is just more interesting world cinema to discover! ... but I do want to move forward on the Cahiers list too...
at least 10 new countries to see movies from (154 at the moment, some big ones like Saudi-Arabia, North-Korea, Chad, Libya, Zimbabwe and Rwanda to go!) I am at 160 at the moment, Yemen and Djibouti being the most interesting additions

Directors:
I've got a lot of names that I'd love to see in my top10 of most watched at the end of the year, with at least 4 or 5 movies, but these are the most likely to get there at the moment:
Bergman, Lav Diaz, Khavn, Garrel, Hong, Zeze, Sono and Gopalakrishnan
5x Bergman, 3x Diaz, Khavn, Hong and Gopalakrishnan also dipped in... the Japanese ones are on the back burner, again... although I did watch a spontaneous 4x Masahiro Kobayashi. Also interesting to note are 5x Kautner, 4x Staudte, 4x Im Kwon-Taek and 4x Hasse Ekman they are now candidates to end up in that top 10

ICM goals:
Cien Anos: 17 for bronze 13 for bronze
500<400: 40 for gold (on the current edition) 12 for gold
Doubling: 79 for silver (on the current edition) 33 for silver

Fespaco: 3 for bronze unchanged
Empire Russia: 4 for bronze 3 for bronze
LoveHK: 7 for bronze 5 for bronze
Magyar: 8 for bronze 7 for bronze
TIFF Canada: 8 for bronze done! 34 for silver now, but that is not a goal for this year

Maltin 20th century: 3 for platinum unchanged
European Award: 3 for gold unchanged
Cannes Grand Prix: 4 for gold 3 for gold
BFI british: 4 for silver unchanged

Forgot to write down the goals in the beginning of the year. So let's do some for the rest of the year:

TSPDT: 900/1000 min, 920/100 optional
1.1.: 819 (2021 edition)
4.5.: 845 (+26)

500<400: Watch 100
1.1.: 229
5.4.: 254 (+25)

I will try to think of a bit more, probably related to Japanese cinema
Current recommendation: Mandala (1981)

Current focus: Doubling the Canon nominees, Japan, South Korea

Other than that I have a couple of less tangible goals related to a director or three.
I'm nixing this as a 2021 goal. It's still a long-range goal, but I'm not likely to get this far during the calendar year...

2. Maintain platinum on all current awards (7 at the moment)
Update through the end of April:

"1. Achieve either a bronze OR platinum award (for the first time) on 25 different lists during the year."

My pace is a little behind so far in 2021, but I'm still confident I can take care of this. I'm still jumping around a lot and making progress, but just not seeing the bronzes or plats come through in huge numbers. That being said, I'll start to reach those goals soon on plenty of lists and I'll see these lists start to tick upwards.

Here are the lists I've achieved bronze on in 2021:

1. Pixar Recommends
2. IMDb's 1920s Top 50
3. Time Out's The 100 Best British Films
4. European Film Award - Best Film (re-earned)

And here are the lists I've achieved platinum on in 2021:

1. Rotten Tomatoes 100 (re-earned)
2. IMDb's Mystery Top 50

Technically if I'm going by the terms I laid out in my original post I wouldn't count the lists where I re-earn the awards. But I'm still including them for now, for tracking purposes if nothing else.

"2. Maintain platinum on all current awards (7 at the moment)"

So far so good, I re-earned the Rotten Tomatoes platinum shortly after that list updated, and I watched Nomadland prior to the Oscars so there was no gap in that award either. I think the biggest issue for this goal for the rest of 2021 is if reddit decides to update their list. There will likely be 15-20 new titles I'll have to watch on that one.

Just a heads up that the list will grow a little with the addition of the earliest winners, once we finish figuring out what they are.

Well, that's good to know... Cinephilia is a well that never goes dry... :D
I hope these early winners won't be too hard to find.
