I think this is the only film (so far) this year that definitely should have made my list, but didn't. Just re-watched it in February before the 1929 poll and unaccountably did not add it to my list, which I was already updating. Louise Brooks really had one of the greatest presences in film history, just magnetic. Well, next year for sure. Lots of films so far, particularly it seems in the 500s-600s, that I will be considering if I can get around to seeing them again.

But no real surprises so far.

That's different from here. There are "P.A. Days"/"P.D. Days" where the kids get a day off school but the teachers go to work (PD is Professional Development, I forget what PA stands for), but public holidays every gets off. Obviously, if teachers have marking to do they take that home and do it in the evening or on their days off.

Only two top 100, I can't believe it...
I understand it can be divisive, but it's a key movie, and those who liked it should praise it a bit more.
It's a milestone, it's like a summary of what French cinema has best to offer, it's an homage to the free spirits Cocteau and Godard. And so much more than that. It's an explosion of joy, just listen to the lyrics of Manset's song "Revivre". Listen! It's an ode to cinema and to life.
Seeing it stucked between random stuff like "Y tu mama también" and "Pink Floyd: The Wall" is soul-crushing.
I agree with cinewest, the poll doesn't seem to get stronger as we move higher in the rankings.

Count me on the other side of that divide then. :D I didn't care for it when my friend selected it for our movie night one week. Which maybe makes sense since I don't care much for Godard either. It did help me define the essence of what I call "Al films" (my friend's name is Al) - films that are slightly odd that focus more on mood and cinematography than a structured narrative (which could be loosely termed "arthouse", but that's not necessarily the right definition for an Al film) - which helped to temper my expectations for future movie night picks by him. :)

Relax. Some people's favorites didn't even make the list. Yeah, Holy Motors is a swell flick, but that's some serious hyperbole and it feels like you're judging those of us who didn't vote for it, or even those who did, just not "highly enough."
