Yeah screw all songs that dare repeat something. Thankfully the followup track has long verses.
It's one of the most redundant, repetitive lyrics I've ever heard. You can basically boil down the entire song to:

Some of those that work forces
Are the same that burn crosses

Killing in the name of

Now you do what they told ya

You justify those that died
By wearing the badge, they're the chosen whites

Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me
All I know is that when Zack de la Rocha yells those lyrics, they're awesome.
...and compared to The Beatles "Hello Goodbye", this is Nietzsche's Zarathustra

Because of mad security at my job (not related to the pandemic) I have to tap in & out with my work ID constantly ( facilities, work spaces, research labs, and my office among other places)... the blasted thing just somehow deactivated itself (even though I've used it 20 times this morning already) meaning I can't go anywhere, even the loo, since I'll be locked out of my office.
I just emailed the ID office (because they're working remotely these days) and... they won't reactivate my ID unless a submit a passport photo first. So, yeah, .... I've been at this job for 13 years and never had this happen before and I can't perform my job without this ID. Maybe I should go home. It's like -5 F outside anyway today.

sounds like some spy movie lab winter technodystopia alone in the building thriller.

I've not seen humans in real life for 18 days now, other than shapes at a distance. Will have to go to the store tomorrow to get some cabbage but that's unlikely to help.

In late October I discovered a new gym was opening up downstairs from me (2-3 min walk) in late November so I was excited to join and work out for the next 3 months and get into a routine before Uni started on 1 March. Late Nov came around and they said mid December. Mid Dec rolls around and they early 2021. In January they announced an opening date of Feb 3. And now... 1 March. Or who knows, 2022 or next century perhaps.

I'd like to lodge a formal complaint about Films For Action 100 not only not being an official list but never even offered to be such.

Speaking of security overkill (kill all the lawyers!)

Everything comes triple seniorproofed. Not one seal, not two, no less than three.

If it ain't broke, they fix it.

I have a nice arthritis-friendly can opener and now they've taken to making cans can-opener proof, putting pull-up rings on them instead.

In the good old days about 15 years ago I wrote an Hopkins-parody ode to little plastic hangers on new pairs of socks with the lines

I laud these lonely leftovers,
signs that no malign marketeer
has yet managed to make socks seniorproof.

Alas, now they have.

Well, I can see that pull-tabs on cans is more convenient for the vast majority of people. I hadn't realized that they present a challenge for arthritic people (my own arthritis is only occasionally an issue with opening things). I'm guessing someone will come up with a gizmo that can flip up the pull-tab , "hook it" and pull it open, just like we see all those jar lid openers. But yes, it absolutely sucks when you can't open a can without going through some serious pain, assuming there's enough strength left to get the job done.

My hands struggle with a can opener so I always get pull tops, but I have to use a spoon to open them because they hurt my fingers. If my nails are long enough I can use them as well, but they usually aren’t.

Anyone else sick of people who complain about dragging politics into smth? Is this a centrist just-let-me-grill thing? Where does it come from? Is it like a war flashback/PTSD? (other than the obvious "oh here we go the rabble are again going to try to steal more of my money")

No, I'm pretty bored of people dragging politics into everything though.

Too many cries for attention, the whole world has troubles and everyone wants his personal problems to be on everyone else's mind. So apparently going to public spaces and tagging your problem on whatever topic is hot right now has become acceptable under the guise of "everything is politics", even when it's usually just a "may contain traces of nuts" situation.

In this very, very noisy world, people need piece of mind and that's not easy when others make it hard to let people enjoy things that are meant as entertainment.

I was going to take the vaccine.

I made a 180 turn today. Not going to take it, not a chance. I have heard stories from people close to me who have taken it, and it's not worth it. I'd rather have COVID-19 myself than the vaccine for it, because it seems like the vaccine is worse.

Also Astrozeneca is absolutely a shit vaccine.

None

But 100% got sick after Astrozenica
0% however from Phizer or Modesta.

So i take it if it's Phizer or Modesta, but not if i have to take the Astrozenica vaccine.

I also don't know anyone who ended up in hospital on respirators after getting the virus. I'm 25 years. It's pretty much unlikely i'll get very sick if i get infected with COVID-19, so choosing between Astrozenica vaccine and getting COVID-19 is basically choosing between 100% sure of getting sick or like 15 to 20% sure getting sick (because right now around 15% of the world population had COVID-19 at some point they estimate).

I have no interest or knowledge about politics so it just always seems irrelevant when it’s brought into discussions. Agreed with Ondie.

Also, Vietnam really does a great job. Only 35 deaths so far. Only around 1600/1700 cases for a country with almost 100 million citizens. And they don't screw up their numbers, because just check the GDP and what they did. They were one of the few countries to grow strongly in 2020. In terms of countries with biggest GDP they went from 35 to 23 (!!!) in ONE YEAR.

Soon, Vietnam will be the country i'll have to say has the best politics instead of Cuba, Costa Rica, Iceland and Finland if we continue like that.

You can have the vaccine right now if you're 25 years old in Belgium? I thought the elderly had priority?

We're doing really bad in Belgium so no, 25 year olds don't get the vaccine for months to come. The rumour that AstraZeneca gets you 100% sick is also bs. I know 3 people who have taken said vaccine and none of them got sick so by your logic that means the vaccin has a 0% sickness rate ?

It could protect you less, might make you feel uncomfortable but I'd be way more worried about the long lasting effects of Covid than the vaccines, no matter what facebook weirdos try to shout.

It depends. Under certain circumstances (health worker, risk patient, they had excess vaccine, ...) it is possible, but those are mostly fringe cases. We're still working on the elderly nowadays.

Oh yeah Ok I think I just misread Laki, I first understood she was on her way to be vaccined, that she was at the center and then went back home, but that was not a literal U-turn I suppose

I'm very hesitant to believe case counts and death counts when they are distributed by an authoritarian one-party government with a very poor record of transparency, especially when those counts are absurdly low. For the same reason, I don't believe North Korea's claim that it hasn't had a single Covid case.

But there's a huge difference between North Korea and Vietnam. They're not similar. Far from. Yes, Vietnam has an authoritarian one-party government, so does the capitalist Singapore, and both do a very good job. I tend to believe the numbers of Vietnam are actually real, maybe they're not strict in counting, that's possible, but I do tend to believe it's almost a fact that they have such a small number of cases and deaths, partially because surrounding countries all have smaller numbers, even countries like Japan (although islands tend to have been bit lucky because of it's isolated nature). But the entire Eastern Asian region + Oceania do a pretty good job in handling covid. Some say it's also due to more past experience with pandemics.

I tend to believe the government in Vietnam is just very skillful (as well as China, Japan, Singapore, New Zealand, name it), as opposed to USA, Latin America, Europe and Russia.

I think i'm going to take it anyway, esp. after i've heard rumours that you get sick with Pfizer and Modesta after the second injection, while with Astrozeneca it's after the first injection.

It depends. Under certain circumstances (health worker, risk patient, they had excess vaccine, ...) it is possible, but those are mostly fringe cases. We're still working on the elderly nowadays.
I'm not eligible yet. But i know people who are getting vaccinated close to me (health workers in this case). I've heard it from reliable sources (psychologists & nurses mostly, because i'm still a patient (but not inpatient, but yeah i have my sources), so that's why I had my concerns). Fact that almost half of them are suddenly sick because they got a vaccine yesterday... and esp. all the ones that had the Astrozeneca vaccine, says a lot.

I don't think health workers would lie about this, i'm sorry. I know someone who had fear of vaccines, and i thought he was an anti-vaxx bs'er but he definitely has a point after hearing this.

One health worker i have frequent contact also refused the vaccine, since it's not obligatory (but she was the only one of the bunch).

Part of why Belgium is doing really bad, is because the government is incompetent with illiberal covid measures and harsh fines for who violates them (but sure, rapists get free... someone who was to be proven to have raped a girl got free). If you watch Promising Young Woman after that, i can say you that movie suddenly has some extra dimension.

I quit the forum for a few weeks, decided to lurk today, and had to log back in to say what a bad fucking take that is.

Yes, people get sick when taking it. Do you know why? Because a vaccine is a weaker version of the virus. It HAS to do that so that you develop antibodies. It's how your body can fight against it in the future.

You are literally saying you would rather get permanent lung damage (my partner works in a respiratory clinic and most patients are people who had covid months ago) rather than having a mild fever for a few days.

I'm just blown away. Seeing takes like this, or the one about how the covid test messes with an organ that regulates hormones (it's behind the skull) to the point that I'm having enough when seeing misinformation like this.
