Best round so far for me. I never read the voting threads before I've seen all movies, so I was surprise to see the general consensus that it is a weak round. Natvris khe has some amazing colors and scenery (which reminded me a lot of Yuri Ilyenko and I thought he was well liked here), I loved the way Lake Tahoe slowly reveal the character's present, and I haven't seen Tilai recently but I remember liking that the acting felt natural and real, unprofessional but convincing.

Not a very interesting round for me, but thankfully they were all quite short. I had high hopes for all of them initially, but they all seem to have fallen flat.

Started with the Georgian film. Given how well they did last round (I missed that match) and Abuladze's better know Repentance, I thought this would be good, but I didn't like it at all. Perhaps it's one of those films that requires a cultural cheat sheet that you can refer to while watching, because I barely understand anything that was going on.

Moved on to the Mexican film. It started off slow and I was not enjoying it, but it did get better as time rolled on and more exposition happened. In the end, I think I liked it. Not as good as Eimbcke's first film Duck Season, which I really like), but it has a fair bit in common. I could have used another 10-15 minutes to explore further, I think.

Finished with the Burkinabé film. It was just mediocre. Felt a bit rushed, and felt like the subtitles didn't catch everything. I also couldn't properly figure out the relationships of the main characters until the end, which caused some confusion. Strong ending, though, if infuriating. Still, looks like BF will win this round, and I'm interested to see more cinema from this country.

Too bad Natvris khe is so episodic. It could have been great if it had focused just a bit more on a single 'story line', but because of the many characters etc. it didn't work for me at all. Only the last fifteen minutes were impressive.

Tilaï once was a favourite, but after a while I decided it wasn't so great after all. Not great enough to stay a favourite, at least. But a good film nonetheless.

And I've written about Lake Tahoe above. One of the most impressive films I've seen this year. I really love slow cinema when it's done this way. And I admire how the plot essence was revealed.

For those that found Lake Tahoe interesting, you should watch another Eimbcke film called Club Sandwich. It's more intimate and focused on a son/mother relationship, but it's quite good.
