The funniest and most disturbing aspect of this poll has been the director pictures.

The shortest (193 cm / 6' 4") and oldest of them is practically a dead ringer and has told me that he has in fact been asked if he was the musician on several occasions. And he shares the same birthday!

But I also feel like I see Sting all the time out and about; something about his particular look is very common around here, a particular sort of Aryan look I guess. Anyway he's the only celeb I can think of that I've regularly seen dead ringers for. I also remember seeing a guy on a train in Chicago once, over 20 years ago, another spitting image, perhaps the most drunk or drugged-out person I've seen in my life who was still capable of standing. Weird how these little events stay in your memory forever.
That guy on the train was definitely Sting. And one of your cousins is probably also Sting.

Hm .. am I mistaken that St. Gloede has interest in the Nouvelle Vague and might get at least a little out of JLG?

I don't want to sound mean (especially where I love Nightmare Before... so much!), but Henry's super goofy smile and slightly receding forehead make a good pair with the widely smiling skeleton above, right?

Very interesting list... Thanks for the efforts Ferg and Lonewolf.

Btw, did I miss Ivan's Childhood or was Streamroller considered as the feature debut?

Very interesting list. The top 10 is hardly surprising and could just as well been filtered from our favorite movies list (I think), but the rest of the list certainly has a different order with some surprising entries.

Yeah pretty much what joachim sez; I'd have predicted that Eraserhead would have been above Hiroshima, and I'm not sure I would have guessed that #s 6 & 8 would have done quite so well, but the top 10-20 isn't really out of character with all the other lists we have. After that though it does get a lot more interesting and unpredictable.

I probably didn't count Eraserhead since I kept to a 30-minute minimum for features. Otherwise he would've had my vote too. Looking at the point diff between 3 & 4, it wouldn't have made a big impact anyway.

Thanks for hosting Lonewolf!

Even after doing all of the research, seeing some of these films listed as debuts still comes as a surprise to me. Very surprised but happy that The Return made the Top Ten.

I was putting it off, but maybe I'll watch Hiroshima mon amour before the forum favourites poll this week after all, if it's that good.

And yeah, I totally agree that it's an interesting list. Although it gets more predictable near the top.
Still I wouldn't have predicted Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? in the top 10

I of course also want to thank everyone who made and submitted a list! Especially since it took more effort than usual to do so.

Seen 128/300 (43%) - only 22 away from a bronze, so I might focus on that.
Highest unseen: #3 Hiroshima mon amour - might as well start with this one.
Highest favourite: #2 12 Angry Men (23 favourites in total)
Highest dislike: #171 Wavelength (5 dislikes in total)
Position of my #1: #120 Finding Nemo
My highest ranked film not to make the list: #342 Jusqu'à la garde 2017 — a.k.a. Custody (my #2)

Only 19 films are unofficial... I definitely expected there to be more.
The unofficial ones
Most were formerly official, and some might be again after this year's DTC

107 Thank You for Smoking 2005
141 Phase IV 1974
170 La tortue rouge 2016 — a.k.a. The Red Turtle
172 Ex Drummer 2007
207 Sin nombre 2009 — a.k.a. Sin Nombre
216 Pleasantville 1998
217 Reconstruction 2003
218 Ma vie de Courgette 2016 — a.k.a. My Life as a Zucchini
219 Lost River 2014
233 Submarine 2010
238 The Butterfly Effect 2004
258 The Kings of Summer 2013
259 The 20th Century 2019 — a.k.a. The Twentieth Century
263 Sleeping Beauty 2011
266 Boy Meets Girl 1984
276 Everything Is Illuminated 2005
288 Les anges du péché 1943 — a.k.a. Angels of the Streets
290 Naissance des pieuvres 2007 — a.k.a. Water Lilies
298 Lady Macbeth 2016

OK might as well...

Seen 235/300, 78.33%
Highest unseen: #42 Accattone - not surprised, my Italian cinema blind spot
Highest favorite: the top 5 are all favorites, as are about half of the films I've seen from the top 300
Highest dislike: #57 The Lion KIng - just 4 dislikes total
Position of my #1: #245 Take Care of My Cat
My highest ranked film not to make the list: #358 Girl Walk: All Day which was #5 on my list; it's the only one of my top 18 not to make it, after that I fall off the cliff

Admittedly, I didn't pay attention to this poll until tonight. I've seen 220/300. I haven't researched all those films, but the remaining ones I'd be most likely to watch include Les Anges du Peche, The Apple, Amer, Chocolat, A Swedish Love Story and The Triplets of Belleville.

The ranks for Being John Malkovich and Ex Machina seem awfully high.

Seen 265/300
Highest unseen: #31 American History X
Position of my #1: #3 Hiroshima Mon Amour
I felt like a surprising number of the films on my list made it, but I haven't counted that...
#10 The Last House on the Left is the highest one on my list not making it

Seen: 170/300 (56.67%)
Highest unchecked: Hiroshima mon amour (#3)
Number of favorites: 39/170 (22.94%)
Highest favorite: Eraserhead (#4)
Number of dislikes: 35/170 (20.59%)

Certainly not the worst poll we had.

THANK YOU Fergenaprido! :worship: :worship: Without all your fabulous exhaustive research this poll would have been way more difficult to do for both me as well as many participants.
Thanks to both of you for such a great job! I'm ashamed to admit I didn't participate (a lot going on these days), and I really regret not doing so, this was a lot of fun. I'm not sure if it would work at all but, in the same vein, have we considered doing a final feature film list? I can't imagine it would be as interesting, you'd only be able to include directors who are dead or retired, but still, I'd be curious what such a list would look like. I might have missed it, maybe such a list possibility has already been discussed?
