Halfway there for the Top 1000 club and currently in the T3000 club. I'll guess I'll be watching quite a few noirs and westerns again in the coming weeks. Also lots of AFI laughs and passions. And I'm also seeing the first glimpses of a few 1000 lists, which is going to way more problematic, David Thomson being the worst culprit, New York Times and Halliwell not that far behind.

.. which reminds me of how inefficient at watching / checking / listwhoring I am. Shameful!*
So many lists where I excessively overshoot and land in the Top 100 - while others bog down in the 800s.

I have 3969 [as of now] official checks and am #333 overall with roughly 60% rankings in the Top 500.
If I skipped mastering these obscure Asian lists and concentrated on all the films which stand in most official lists, how much could better could I score?
Wait, that gives me an idea. I'm sure you experts are able to calculate the following:
Step 1: Generate a hypothetical Torgo clone with 3969 seen films, but only on the most official lists.
Step 2: Okay, that's good, but not good enough. Make it also most efficient. Try to kill the biggest overshoot, so Torgo 2.0 doesn't end up with still too many #100 rankings. Taschen 100, 1001BYD quickly land good spots anyway, Pinoy or Amanda don't (because they have so damn little crosslisted titles). We need maximum efficiency.
Step 3: Great, and how efficient! To squeeze the last potential out: Sure Shoah, Napoleon and Les Vampires are on many many lists, but they take too much time - time in which I could watch 4 smaller films on various lists to reach my goals. Or even shorts. So, what would be the least time invested to get to the best rankings for all of the 208 lists?

*I don't really think like that. ;)

Doubtful I will ever achieve this, and I'm 100% okay with that. :)
I guess it's time for an update 3 years later.

34/194

Not bad progress actually, since I don't focus on this.

To add myself back into the table, I'd be as such:

My only real goal is to get all lists below 10,000.
An update after the new list adoptions.

But at the bottom, the immanent philosopher sees in the entire universe only the deepest longing for absolute annihilation, and it is as if he clearly hears the call that permeates all spheres of heaven: Redemption! Redemption! Death to our life! and the comforting answer: you will all find annihilation and be redeemed!

For quite a while I've had three lists that keep me from the Top 500 club: the Dutch Film Top 50, Amanda Award and Hurriyet Top 100 Turkish. I know there's a non-trivial amount of Dutch and Norwegian users on the site so naturally there's going to be a higher average watch count than a lot of countries for those. Not sure what's up with the Turkish list. Are there a lot of Turkish users out there or do people just like to watch awful comedies?

I recently lost a Platinum -- I think the IMDb 1920s list changed and added "Lucky Star."

There is a quite a big group of Turkish people on the site. Simply click on a random film on that list which is not known outside of Turkey and you see loads of Turkish profiles. Probably they don't engage here or on the site itself as much since their English is not as good as that of Norwegians and the Dutch, so we won't notice them as much. But iCheckmovies lends itself really well to people who are not that proficient with English.

The same is true for Russia btw. All those Soviet comedies have quite a few checks, which means you have to watch quite a few more movies on the Empire Russia list than the Russian Guild list to achieve a similar ranking.

I've noticed Turkish films that aren't even "official" and still have well over 100 checks.

I've noticed on sites like Letterboxd that the Middle-East has quite an active community of film fans too. And, much like India, Turkey has a pretty bustling film industry that has quite some spirited local fans. These films usually don't travel far, but Netflix sometimes adds entire batches.

Interesting observation indeed. Those are 3 lists I also had to work on a little bit to get in the (lesser) Top 1000 club, while other country lists just by chance were in a 3-digit-region. The Turkish and also Russian lists, as Gorro said, stick out.
It could be even more interesting bearing in mind that we had the other Turkish top list in the beginning days of ICM, and we all know it had been more alive from ca. 2010-2013 :/ ; meaning many dead profiles wouldn't have seen the Hurriyet list become official to work on it.
