Those missions are challenging, but I find them rewarding too. Although in some games they really do suck, because they're poorly implemented. Just not in the ones you mentioned.Ettinauer226XL on Feb 21 2016, 03:22:41 PM wrote:I played it on PS2. But then again I was a teen then so I might feel different about the game now. Maybe I'll try it again in the summer when I have the time, probably on the wii.
I remember last summer since I had so much time to waste with the layoff period. I had plans to go through so much of my gaming backlog. But then Hyrule Warriors came in and that was my life for a few weeks. I played like 200 hours of it and I'm still not even close to done. I did buy the DLC package too which didn't help.

I got kind of tired of Hyrule Warriors, found it repetitive after a while. I'm going to replay Resident Evil on the Wii too. I only played it on GameCube.Ettinauer226XL on Feb 21 2016, 03:29:37 PM wrote:Maybe I'll try it again in the summer when I have the time, probably on the wii.

That's why I gave Hyrule Warriors tons of kudos points. I hate grinding, but that game did the impossible and made it fun. I never felt like it was repetitive.

Only complaint was Cia. The cleavage was so fucking unnecessary, even more than in the Pheonix Wright games. Not only that, but it felt so out of place too. Like seriously, just look at it! WTF

my theory is that she had her outfit all done, cleavage covered up, and then she's like, goddammit what about my stupid bird mask?! there's no more fabric!?! anywhere!?!?! so she cut out the cleavage bits and made that stupid fuggin mask. the shape of the cleavage cutout is almost exactly the same as what would be needed to make that stupid thing. fabric logic.

My silly theory was that the game developers were trying to give a message that's like "See the characters like Zelda? They are not promiscuous, and they are good people! Cia on the other hand? Evil! And evil people are promiscuous! Don't be like Cia. Don't be evil."

I also love that friggin Kojima gave some ridiculous reason for his newest misogynistic character. It's so much more insulting than simply stating "I like skimpy outfits and tits, and so does my teenage audience."Ettinauer226XL on Feb 21 2016, 07:55:59 PM wrote:Well yea that's obviously the real theory but that one's no fun
"The reason that Kojima is referencing here - the plot point that means Quiet has to wear as little as humanly possible - is that she is infected by a parasite that grants her superhuman powers but means she must breathe through her skin. She also takes in water and light like a plant."

There are some games in the database from earlier and later - but we're talking about really low on the list.
Also - it's interesting how the top two years are decade enders

Several of the top ones seem to be 90s PC games - not sure if that's a pattern or just a coincidence.

Making a metalist like this always has the issue of the primacy effect. Some lists are from the early 00s or late 90s which limits their scope.frbrown on Feb 23 2016, 08:39:33 PM wrote:Thanks, Rich!

I've tried to control it the best that I can with how I weight a list's value, but newer games will need a while to prove themselves.
On the other hand, there were a lot of gameplay breakthroughs in the 90s. So it stands that they do well based on influence.
Like how the highest Pokemon game is Red/Blue. Later releases like Platinum are better, but people love nostalgia.
Think I forgot Pokemon Gen. 2, too.Kasparius on Feb 23 2016, 08:20:27 PM wrote:You forgot Twilight Princess at #90, it wasn't on my list.

http://theyshootzombies.com/ghf1000/sources/
http://www.acclaimedmusic.net/Current/a ... _lists.htm
all of which are massive. TSPDT's is probably the easiest, since it doesn't link to the sources, just names them.
P.S.
Your tendonitis wasn't caused by too many video games, was it

Hope you get better soon!

It's interesting to see the differences between this and something like Metacritic/GameRankings where it's an amalgamation of reviews primarily on release of a game.
Like you mentioned newer games currently suffer which is a bit like TSPDT's viewpoint of they need to prove themselves over time.
This does help correct for overhype of a game upon release though.

The other thing with metacritic now is that games come out unfinished. A game 6 months after release has ironed out many quirks and would get a better grade. So re-evaluation is necessary.
