This presents its own problems when critics now make end of year lists.

For example: Destiny barely featured in 2014 lists... but most best of 2015 lists because of The Taken King.

So I finished Half-Life 2, it was a great game, but not even remotely top 5 material in my mind. I can see how influential and well designed it is, but still. Metroid Prime is still a better FPS in my opinion, and it came out before this one.

I also hope the episodes explain that crappy ending, because I'm pissed.

Is there a plan for this to be updated on an annual basis or are you planning on keeping it as is for longer?

The plan is to add new lists and recalculate whenever I find them.

For lists that update regularly (like some of the Kotaku lists I used) I will be updating those every 6-9 months.

Do you have this list anywhere where it can be 'checked'? IMDb or something?

Wow what an awesome list! Besides some strange choices at times, imo - like why would Arkham Asylum be rated above Arkham City - or the first Assassins Creed and Cand Crush being in it, it's still pretty solid and comprehensive! Wonderful.

I would rate Asylum over City. Metroidvania style surpasses open world.

I just think that City expands on what Asylum did in every way. More bad guys, more sidekicks, better gadgets and more mechanics. Perfect sequel. Although maybe they overdid it with the riddler challenges.

Sega Rally Championship, the only "rally" game in the top 1000

btw Jet Set Radio is available for Android, not just iOS (I just found out, gonna try!)

Ninja Gaiden 2004 is "available" for some old consoles, looking at the lists. that's prob not right

I think City did some things better, yes, but the sense of isolation and overall level design is superior to me in Asylum. More doesn't mean better.

I copied the list onto Grouvee.
https://www.grouvee.com/user/Wolfy/shel ... 00/?num=25

The site has American names for the video games. They have Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons as separate. Smash Bros for the Wii U and 3DS they have together...so it still comes out to 1000.

Some franchises I'm surprised that didn't make the list:
Wild Arms
Harvest Moon/Rune Factory
Breath of Fire
Shantae
Anno
Europa Universalis
Etrian Odyssey
Tropico
Onimusha
Dynasty Warriors

How many lists did you add for this update?

Any progress in making a page listing all the sources used?

Since I last posted about 20 lists have been added.

As for a source page... I had completely forgotten about that. I'll see if I can get that done xD

There is no way Bioshock should ever rate higher than System Shock 2 on any top games list.

Right, that's sorted now.

To see all the lists I used you can go here: playthatgame.co.uk

I need to redo the names for consistency reasons, but I figured rough and ready would do for now :)

For the first few months that I was compiling this Bioshock was actually in the lead.

Then it was overtaken by Link to the Past, then Ocarina of Time was #1.

Finally Tetris took the slot and is pretty much safe as houses up there.

Are Rise of the Tomb Raider and Just Cause 2 the only new games on the list?

I can add new games to the end of the list I made on Grouvee.

This is still impressive, man.

Yea I... probably should be keeping more of a watch on what games come in and go out

I did notice the entry of Rise of the Tomb Raider though.

Also, thanks updating for the Grouvee list! I don't think this site gets too many visitors, so if this creates any sort of traffic that would be amazing :)

I added a link to website on the list on Grouvee but the list went a little haywire with the numbering while doing it but I'm fixing it.

There are five new games on the list: Colin McRae Rally, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Just Cause 2, Until Dawn.

Thanks!

I'm going to actually start monitoring this properly so next time I do an update I can see what's entered and exited.

Thinking of the lists I added those 5 games make sense.

Colin McRae Rally 1? That's weird because it's pretty lame compared to the others in the series (namely 2,4,5). Actually I never even finished it, and grabbed it again last week to have another go.

Yes.

I missed another new one at first: The Great Escape.

I was looking into that during my last update - at the moment the points are still in a position where a game could enter the top 2000 based on performing extremely well on two 'all time' lists. Once that mathematically cannot happen, we'll expand :)
Promoting stuff that only makes a handful lists is also important =)
Don't like resurrecting such a long dead thread - but it made sense than to keep it in the introduction thread :)

Also - I listened aaaand it's been done.

You will start to notice groupings in the lower echelons - this is because some lists will make an entire series an entry, so I have to add them all. This happens all the time with Halo and some sports game series. It's just the way it goes I suppose.

I also now have a lot of games to add metadata to as our previous API source for platforms doesn't work anymore. But the platform function has always been a bit screwy tbh.
