Never liked Klaus Nomi before but my daily random Pokémon genre album game rolled classical crossover today and I ended up with Nomi and have been obsessed with this song all day.

Edit: I made my boyfriend listen to a bit of this and he was just ".... I don't like it."

Still the most underrated Mobb Deep track. Was listening to The Infamous taking the long way home through the mountains yesterday, and finally got Noyd's "then he was Swayze" line.

Bob Dylan's Black Diamond Bay, which oddly isn't on youtube, has been in very heavy rotation during the 24 hours since I watched 11 x 14.

I bought it this morning on iTunes and have been playing it nonstop while I've been out delivering. Wow, I can't believe I own maybe a dozen Dylan albums and missed such an essential one. That whole stretch from Joey to Sara, my god! Any other recommendations for good underrated albums by him? Already been blessed by John Wesley Harding and Time Out of Mind, but other than that mostly just know the classics.

Nah, I'm not that crazy about Dylan. I like a lot of his music, but I'm not the kind of person to listen to all of his albums.

Joey is actually the one sour note for me in Desire. Dylan was so wrapped up in writing an epic narrative song that he somehow lost sight of the fact that he was valorizing a brutal criminal who murdered plenty of people. My favorite song on the album is One More Cup of Coffee.

And speaking of Desire, I think I might reference it in a moment in another thread ...

Aww Dylan's really in the running for my favorite musician of all time, and was certainly the first musician I really loved.

I found Joey to be an incredibly vivid intimate epic, but I'll have to listen to it more, I know I missed some of the lyrics in the first half. But from "there was talk they killed their rivals, but the truth is far from that" and him discouraging his gang from blowing up the gas main or whatever, I got the sense the titular character did what he had to do when push came to shove, but generally was the moral compass of his crew. In any case, as my musical taste generally evinces, I love lucid exploration of the grittier side of life, and I don't judge anyone who was born into the street life nearly as harshly as, say, the oft-valorized brutal slaveowning criminals who founded our country. (Eh, maybe that's too intentionally provocative...let's say I have no problem enjoying, for instance, Gance's Napoleon either.) For me the sour note, or at least the one that makes me quite self-conscious when I'm playing it with my window down, is the line about Hurricane's protagonist's being just a "crazy n*****" in the eyes of the local black community, which is quite ballsy and I'm sure well-intentioned, but oof, has not aged well to say the least.

I was definitely digging the musicality of One More Cup of Coffee, but I haven't dug into it that much. Look forward to more spins on tomorrow's route.

Haha, I considered Mozambique for your thread.

Heh nice.

I've finally started exploring Bowie. Began with Low, maybe not the best place to start, but I'm absolutely loving it, been in heavy rotation the last few days. The interaction between side 1 and 2 is exactly the kind of thing I look for and don't find enough of in art. And it's just so easy to listen to. And those pre-Bobby Digital drums are bangin.

Bowie has an incredible discography. I've grown to appreciate Low a lot more as I've developed a fondness for instrumental music. Don't sleep on Earthling, I'd say it's easily the most underrated Bowie record and one of my favorites, period.
